The Cirl's Trio is a tradition in the East High Music Department. This year's group includes Marjorie Steele, second alto: Barbara Smith, first alto: Janet Lou Coffman, soprano: and Sue Snider, accompanist. SPECIALISTS IN BUSINESS TRAINING I IO2 20th Street Huntington, West Virginia PHOTOGRAPHY IN THIS BOOK CORBIN R. MILLER Huntington East Trades School Q lf MEMORY LANE As we begin our stroll down L'Memory Lane we see many wonderful things which have passed before us. Cur fondest memory was the first trip through the doors of Huntington East High School. Down the halls and through the corridors to which we thought we would never become accustomed. We eagerly awaited each Eriday's assembly, and although we were lowly sophomores in the balcony, we were the first to rise at the sound of our Alma Mater. Our first great accomplishment was having John Seay and Connie McClure chosen typical sophomores, two people of whom we are proud. This year's hit parade featured such favor' ites as Ma be It's Because, Someda , Mule Y Train, and Dreamers Holiday. Our football team made a great showing this year, winning nine out of ten games, ably assisted by several members of our class. This year we were excited and proud as our band wearing new uniforms marched down the aisle of the East Auditorium. These activities made the days go fast and without realizing it we were through our first year as Highlanders. The summer passed rapidly and soon we were beginning our Junior year. This year brought heartache as well as happiness. Une of our dearest friends was to leave us. Mr. O, E. Hodge, first principal and counselor of East High, was promoted to assistant superintendent of schools, in Cabell County. To his office came a stranger, later to be loved by all Highlanders, Mr. C. V. Boyer. Again our football team came through and beat Central for the second straight year. We also had a good basketball team this year win' ning twelve out of eighteen games. Our Junior Talent Show, in the form of a minstrel, went over big. Junior class ofhcers were Bob Moss, presif dent, Tim Wheatly, vice president, Coralise Clark, secretary. Connie McClure and Bob Moss were chosen .typical juniors. Cur contribution to the cheerleaders was Jessie Tatum and Eleanor Faulkner, while Judy Hattcn and Connie McClure became majorettes. The songs that stirred our hearts this year were such neverftofbefforgotten tunes as Ten' nessee Waltz, All My Love, and My Heart Cries For You. Then with the closing of School came our greatest thrill of all The JuniorfSenior Prom, with its theme Harbor Lights. This was our gift to the graduating class of '51. In our senior year we started off with a bang, electing Glenn Hunter class president, Don Thompson, vice president, and Yevonne Gilkerf son, secretary. We topped off a wonderful football season by winning the WHTN trophy which will now remain in our showcase for all to see and rememf ber the team of 'il We had the best basketball season since 1947. The students showed good judgment in choosing Kay Hughes as Miss Highf lander and Dorothy Birchfield and Carole Kings- ley as her attendants. Various talents were presented at our Color Day assembly when we introduced our colors of Maroon and White. We lost a very dear friend this year when H. C. Shadwell passed away. In an assembly put on by the band and orchestra Mr. Arnold was presented with a lovely new uniform. This year we placed Pat Winters and Phyllis Anderson on the majorette squad. Sueh tunes as Cry, Tell Me Why and Because of You, filled our year with many happy hours. We turned out a wonderful senior play this year called Smarter and Smoother starring .lean Meadows, Judy Hatten, David Dunlap and Delmas Goodin. This year as June approached it did not bring with it the happy feeling of a summer vacation. This year we would end our career as Highlanders. No longer would we be carefree Highlanders, but grown people with our own responsibility. With these thoughts in mind we turn our back to Memory Lane and begin a new path all its own.
