CLAN HISTDRY In the face of l947 a new adventure un our lufe was opened up to us We entered our furst year of hugh school at H E H S We entered thus year un awe of everythung and everyon But we soon got unto the groove wuth Helen Prunce and Charley Bob Draper beung pucked the typucal Sophomores Then Jean Wuthers and Phyllus Romune were pucked for cheerleaders and Geraldune Sumpson and Eleanor Rusmuselle as alternates Then along came three new mauorettes from our class Sue Ann Wulluams Helen Prunce and Joann Young Our boys also showed great promuse un the fueld of sports Some of the most outstandung un football basketball and track were Coconut Copley Dan Davus Ronald and Donald Ruchards George Thompson Lee Adkuns and Harry Sowards to mentuon a few We agaun went to the basketball tournament at Morgantown but we were defeated un the funals Yes we were provung ourselves capable of fullung the shoes of the Junuors soon to be Senuors After a short vacatuon we lumped unto our Junuor year full of confudence Thus was a bang up year for us Thus year we had offucers and a steerung commuttee The offucers were Presudent Norman Blue Vuce Presudent Ruchard Evnon and Secretary and Treasurer Helen Prunce Our colors were red and gray and our flower was the red rose Norman Luttle Boy Blue and Helen Chapman were our Typucal Junuors for the year The French and Hu Y Clubs gave the furst Sock Hop un the school whuch turned out to be very successful We were steaduly gaunung recognutuon un sports wuth George Thompson steppung unto the furst team un football We won the State Baseball Champuonshup thus year Our class had two new mauorettes un ut They were Jaynue Mynes and Mary Lue Muller We really tepped forward and were seen when we gave the prom for the graduatung Senuors It was a very beautuful and colorful scene ln fact we were very proud of Twulught Tume We left H E H S for a short whule knowung that a bug year faced us when we returned wanted to know anythung about Huntungton East Hugh School you could have asked us we knew all the answers Yes the fall of l9-49 was a far cry from that of l947 But as we were Senuors we had to take actuon So we quuckly got our class organuzed wuth Lee Adkuns takung over as Presudent Joann Young Vuce Presudent Eluzabeth Bland Secretary and l-'arrv Sowards Treasurer Our colors were green and whute Our flower the yellow rose and our motto The ladder of success us before us let us clumb guven to us by Bobbue Lou Maynard After gazung at the queens of past years we at last pucked our own wuth Mereduth Gerlach as Muss Hughlander and Peggy Steele and Margaret Morehead as her attendants Some of the top dances of th year were the Sock Hop at Chrustmas by the Senuor Steerung Commuttee Vuctory Ball and the Prom A Twurp Week or Gurl Date Boy was started by the Double trouble Ruchards twuns Donald and Ronald Jack Egnor and Lee Adkuns and ended wuth a dance Thus was on of the mast huuaruous tumes of the year Thus was Huntungton East Hugh School s best football season un the hustory of the school wuth one loss ard nune wuns George Thompson landed a berth on the furst team of the West Vurgunua All Southern Charleston Dauly Maul and last but not least the All State Dan Davus made furst team of All Southern and second team of the Dauly Maul and All State whule Norman Blue made honorable mentuon on all three The Torch took un fufty two new members un a ceremony un the school audutoruum A but sad at leavung Huntungton East Hugh School and y t a but happy at startung another new adventure Yes our three vears as Hughlanders wull not very easuly be forgotten By KlTTY ALLEN Class Hustoruan Z I A eg A . . , U 4 V V I .
