Senror Class Lrterature In 1923 f1tty young men and women came to Huntlngton to enroll 1n that game of l1fe called college There were all types ot players brg and lrttle coy and darlng And we set out to learn the rules of the game together They told us we would play rn quarters the flrst of whrch wt were entering then The mam rules to be kept ln mlnd were loyalty, am bltlon, courage and a real sense of sportsmanshlp We soon learned there would be much competltlon for there vsere three sets of players already rn symbol of our vlctory on the college and wlth that we recall john Robm son as he scaled these helghts that our class colors mlght wave 1n thexr glory Of course there were many hard bumps along the way but even though they called us green d1d we not arrlve at the end v1ctor1ousP Duc to clrcumstances several of our squad were el1m1nated durrng the second quarter However thls dld not lesson our enthuslasm Cupld seemed to take a speclal rnterest, and wh1le we were stlll Freshmen he lntroduced a certaln senior into our ranks It w1ll sufflce so say that he drd not rc move hrs rniiuence durlng the remalnder of the game Several of us began to thlnk of our llfe careers In our Jumor year wlth H1155 Shrpley as our gulde we scored contlnually Let me assure you that the scholarshlm slde was not neglected for here we scored by leaps and bounds Then came the day when the whlstle sounded and the umpire announced they havc reached the last quarter They are Senlors' We all reallzed a new sense Ol responsrbxllty, and the fact that the last stage of the game often de termmes the outcome Mlss Smith very competently coached our play 'She Stoops To Conquer and we g1ve her credrt for the success of lts presentatlon Practlce teachlng day w1ll be outstandlng 1n the memory of all of us VVho w1ll forget the fxrst day? The game IS nearly iinrshed now, but we must not forget that glorlous vxeelt end at the Harpham farm I am sure that lt wlll be a memorable occaslon for all of us C Drax L nstatt PAGE THIRTY . . ,. . . . . . , . .
