the future.
Students also make news with
their academic achievements. Each
year, seniors win scholarships and
other awards and recognitions for
their academic excellence. This
year, the Class of '82 had four Na-
tional Merit Scholarship semi-fina-

lists, and sixteen students received
letters of commendation e a result
of their outstanding performance on
the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude
Test.
Students, participation in the fine
arts provides more news sources.
Each year, they perform outstand-
ing dramas. Cabaret and the annual
musical are always sure to make
headlines. Central's budding artists
and musicians always have news-
worthy achievements. The Red
Devil marching band, always con-
sidered outstanding in the DRC, has
now begun competing and making
news of its own.
School, however, is not the only
place students create news. They
participate in numerous community
activities such as the Rescue Squad,
4-H, and youth groups. They also
