Without his help and guidance it would not have been pos- sible for us to complete our high school years so successfully and pleasantly. u His untiring efforts in our behalf, helping us with our prob- lems, leading us around the rough spots along the road to grad- uation, and setting a good example of leadership for us all have won for him the respect and devotion of the faculty and students of his school. For these things and those which cannot easily be put into words, we say with deepest appreciation and affection, Thank you, Harry McGuire. We remember him for his cheerfulness, his understanding, his eagerness to be a part in all our activities, and, most of all, his keen intellect, shown by his never-ending curiosity concerning all things. This is the boy we remember. This is the memory of him that goes down the cor- ridor of time with each and every one of us. Eagerly and with new inspiration we shall strive to do tribute to his accomplishments in our life work. 4711 Memary The opening of the school year was sad- dened for all of us when the news of Leslie Distin was announced. It was most appro- priate that school was closed for the morn- ing, so that faculty, school personnel, and students could honor Mr. Distin by their presence at the funeral services. Leslie Distin was a quiet man, going about his daily work efficiently, getting things done. That was his secret: a quiet, unassuming ngetting things done approach to life. Perhaps we can all learn a lesson from him. We may not be particularly noticed in our everyday world, but we can be missed greatly when we are not around by the manner in which we live. Mr. Distin has gone, we miss him a great deal. Board af .Education MR. G. RICHARD HAM, President MR, BENJAMIN MERWIN MR. KENNETH JENKINS MR. CARLTON HOOSE MR. PAUL FROMER MR. Lunch period is one period everyone looks forward to. We wish to thank the kitchen staff, for doing such a tremendous job in preparing meals. Many thanks to the bus drivers and custodians, who are responsible for the safe transportation of our pupils, and for the cleanliness of our school. They have helped to make our high school years pleasant by their cheerful assistance with our many extracurricular activities. Best wishes to the Class of 1959 upon the satis- factory completion of your high school education. A high school diploma is mute evidence of dili- gent effort, persistence, and a desire to improve oneself. As you go forth into the world, may you use your education not only to achieve personal success and happiness, but also to help make the world a better place for all people. O Very truly yours, Elwood Hitchcock Dist. Supt. of Schools S Zlass flisfary As our school days at Hunter-Tannersville Central are drawing to a close, we feel that now is an excellent time to review our achieve- ments during the past four years. Our class was divided in our Freshman year. In Tannersville the Advisor was Mrs. Ham and in Hunter, Mr. Hague. The officers of the Tannersville group were: President - Sheila Hoff, Vice President - Margaret Robinson, Secretary - Emily Byrne, Treasurer - Linda Vann, Representative - Jere Kerr. The officers in Hunter were: President - Flossie Higgins, Vice President - Brian Goodrich, Secretary - Sheila Curtis, Treasurer - Eileen Ballon, Representative - Dolores Terns. Our Class Night skit told the story of a little gremlin and his gold. In the Class Night games we came in last. For our Sophomore year, we were together in Tannersville with Mr. McGuire as our Class Advisor. Our class officers were: President - Jere Kerr, Vice President - Sheila Hoff, Secretary - Flossie Higgins, Treasurer - Carol Gillespie, and Representative- Iere Kerr. For Class Night we gave impersonations of famous people using the Dragnet theme. This year we again came in last in the Class Night games. We also gave our first dance this year. The theme for our Sophomore Hop was the Moonlight Gambler. The dance was a big success. In our Junior year we again had Mr. McGuire as our Advisor. Our officers were: President - Roger Miller, Vice President - Emil Banks, Secretary - Linda Vann, Treasurer - Sharon Byrne, and Representative - Brian Goodrich. For Class Night we had a skit based on the record Well, Anyway. In the Class Night games we placed last again. Then on May 9, we had our Junior Prom. Our theme was Oriental Paradise. Emil Banks and Emily Byrne were chosen King and Queen. The members of the Court were: Carol Gillespie and Frank Schwimmer, Sheila Hoff and Brian Goodrich, Dolores Terns and Robert Oppenheimer, Elizabeth Hague and Roger Miller, Sharon Byrne and Robert Lawrence, Linda Vann and Arthur Decker, and Thelma Hoose and Jere Kerr. Then our Senior year arrived. We were all glad to have Mr. Mc- Guire as our Advisor once more. Our class officers were: President - Emil Banks, Vice President - Elizabeth Hague, Secretary - Dolores Terns, Treasurer - Carol Gillespie, and Representative - Brian Good- rich. We started off the year with the Senior Ball on November 21. The theme was the Blue Danube. Sharon Byrne and Robert Oppen- heimer were chosen King and Queen. The members of the Court were: Joyce Oppenheimer and Frank Schwimmer, Sheila Hoff and Roger Mil- ler, Frances Dumas and Robert Lawrence, Linda Vann and Jere Kerr, and Dolores Terns and Brian Goodrich. We were kept busy on the year- book. Then came Class Night. This year our skit was about the dif- ferent flags our nation has had. Guess where we placed in the Class Night games? LAST, of course! But the Senior girls won the volley- ball game. Next, was our trip to Washington. We all had a wonderful time. FRANCES DUMAS Life without love would be a weary blank. Advisor, Mrs. Isabel Schoonmaker. Nineteen hundred fifty-nine saw another innovation at Hunter-Tan- nersville Central Schoolg one of which we are justly proud. This year Hunter-Tannersville Central became a member of the National Honor Society for secondary schools. Our chapter became known as the Maude Adams Chapter and received its charter which was read for the first time on Class Night. At the Induction ceremonies held April 29 in the Senior School auditorium the following pupils were tapped to become the first mem- bers, Seniors: Sharon Byrne, Frances Dumas, Carol Gillespie, Brian Goodrich, Elizabeth Hague, Roger Miller, Frank Schwimmerg and Juniors: Alva Hellstrom, Elizabeth Ann Showers, Beverly Valk, and Donna Vann. The Juniors were selected at a meeting of the Faculty Committee early in April. We owe a special vote of thanks to Mrs. Isabel Schoonmaker who was chiefly instrumental in bringing Hunter-Tannersville in as a mem- ber of the Honor Society. Ghecrleadvrs lfarsify E. Byrne, A.
