61444 filmtv:-1, Our work is Tinished on The Treasure chesT ThaT The senior class has been making Tor The pasT Three years aT I-Iume-Eogg Tech. IT's a beau- TiTuI chesT, wiTh all our school memories packed away wiTh care To be Treasured and loved in The years To come. Come, Tellow classmaTe.s, leT's look inside The chesT once more, while we are here TogeTher. As I open The chesT, The TirsT Thing I see is our sophomore year aT Tech. Remember? l'll never TorgeT iT. I-Iume-Eogg was cliTTerenT Trom any oTher school we had ever aTTended. We were allowed To come and go wiThouT The supervision oT The Teachers. The seniors, Too, seemed sTrange To us. lvIo.sT oT Them wore dress-up cloThes To school and leTT aT noon To go To work. Even The caTeTeria seemed diTTerenT, I remember especial- ly a Table oT boys ThaT serenaded us every day, and a boy who would rush up To Miss I-lardin and Take her lunch Tray back Tor her. Yes, They were liTTle Things like ThaT which we packed away in our chesT. We will always keep Them wiTh us. Our sophomore year passed much Too quickly and we became iuniors. Juniors! IT sounded good To say we were iun- iors. ThaT was The year we had The privilege oT elecTing our own class oTTicers, buT we sTilI envied our senior leaders. There musT have been some abiliTy Tor leadership among The iuniors because Tynon RoberTs was The TirsT iunior To lead Hume- Eogg as The presidenT oT The STudenT Council. Do you remember The TirsT Time we saw The gym running over wiTh sTudenTs? The iuniors can Take The crediT Tor ThaT also. OUT oT much enThusiasm and more hard work came The Daisy Mai I-lop, The gym looked like a huge red barn, wiTh hill-billy boys and mounTain girl sweeThearTs dancing To The Chicken Reel. BUT all was noT play Tor The class eiTher. We had our share oT homework and class lessons. Remember wriTing The book-reporT Trom memory Tor Mrs. Ellis, and going To visiT Versailles, The casTle OT Louis XIV, during Mrs, McGarr's an- cienT hisTory class? Our iunior year was rapidly coming To an end, and we began Thinking abouT whaT we were going To do Tor The seniors To show how much we would miss Them. Gur plan was To give Them The TirsT Junior-Senior prom ever To be held in I-lume-Eogg. There was The general Tlurry weeks beTore The prom-ThaT was -girls Trying many new and ouTIandish hairdos and bragging abouT Their beauTiTul new Tormals. Each girl was guiTe sure she would look like some glamorous movie sTar. We shall never TorgeT ThaT nighT oT nighTs, We were impressed bv The scene inside The gym. IT resembled a unique balleT Troupe enTerTaining The specTaTors aT The Tables on The balcony. Each girl and her escorT were dreamily swaying To The soTT noTes oT STardusT, played by George Logan arid his orchesTra, The evening was climaxed by The grand march and reTre,shmenTs oT punch and cool orange sherbeT. The couples leTT, each Taking wiTh Them biTs oT The decoraTion Tor souvenirs as well as The mem- ory oT a wonderTul evening. Thus ended our iunior year, a happy year, a memorable year. Came SepTember and we enTered I-lume-Eogg as high spiriTed seniors. ATTer exchanging sum- mer experiences, we all goT down To The grind oT sTudying IvIacbeTh. We had heard Terrible Tales oT The lines we had To memorize, buT Trom our reporT cards iT seemed ThaT mosT oT us came Through wiTh Tlying colors, and we will have To admiT ThaT we raTher liked MacbeTh. I know none oT us will ever TorgeT The day class rings came. We were all so exciTed and everyone was showing all The Teachers Their rings as iT They had never seen one beTore, To us They were as beauTiTul as any diamond ThaT could be Tound anywhere. AnoTher ouTsTanding memory locked in our chesT will be The ChrisTmas Dance, our lasT social oT I949, There was a huge Tree wiTh many color- Tul lighTs casTing a mellow glow upon The danc- ers. Above The dance Tloor There were shining sTars winking back and TorTh aT us as iT They, Too, knew oT our happiness. ATTer Two glorious weeks oT holidays, Tech's halls rang wiTh The IaughTer oT her sTudenTs. AT This Time we became aware oT iusT how liTTle Time we had leTT aT Tech. Exams crepT closer and closer. Plans were being made Tor our picnic, The very lasT Time we would all be TogeTher, excepT graduaTion nighT, ThaT was The nighT ThaT will never be TorgoTTen. We were marching down The aisle-The liTTle sophomores ThaT had come To Tech in l947, The boys wore blue caps and gowns: girls wore whiTe caps and gowns, I-Iere are our Tassels leTT Trom our caps. LeTIs puT Them in our chesT, where They will Torever sTay along wiTh The resT oT our school-day Treasures.
