Your fellow students of last year and the year before have helped to demonstrate beyond the shadow of a doubt, before the eyes of a critical world, that they possess the physical courage and the spiritual stamina to sacrifice even their lives, if necessary, to preserve the ideals of our American way of life. This great country was built upon a foundation of honesty, hard work, sacrifice, and an unequivocal belief in God. Without these principles no individual or nation can hope to survive. During your years at Tech you have put into practice these principles, you have practiced democracy in your relations with fellow students, and you have prepared yourselves to earn a living in a democracy where worth- while achievement is the standard of recognition among your fellowmen. By these things you have rendered a service to yourselves, to your con- temporaries, and to posterity. Statues of bronze and monuments of Marble may be obliterated by the ravages of Time, but the tradition which you leave to Hume-Fogg Tech may never be erased. We are confident that wherever you go or whatever duty falls to you, whether it be defending your country on the battlefield or upholding its prestige in the industrial world, you will be able to distinguish yourselves by your efforts. The Blue Devils were unfamiliar with the large Howard Gym and were defeated 21 to 12. Tech then played Lipscomb and went down by the close score of 28 to 27. The Blue Devils were handed their third loss by. Cohn with the score of 39 to 27, and a fourth loss by T. I. S. with the s core of 37 to 27. Tech won its first game by defeating the Alumni 38 to 37. M. B. A. then handed Tech its flfth loss by the score of 37 to 16, and North made it six by defeating the Techsters 37 to 23. After six losses, Tech broke into the winning column by beating Pea- body 41 to 26. The Blue Devils next defeated T, I. S. 20 to 17 and then made it three straight by bumping Cohn 22 to 9. M. Binns. Maxine Parton, and Dorothy Jones. CHEERLEADERS No basketball game is complete without a team of good cheerleaders. This is exactly what Hume-Pegg has had during the past bas- ketball season. Some, if not all, of the cheer- leaders were present at all the games. The whole school is proud of the team of cheer- leaders. The election of cheerleaders was held last November. Seven girls and one boy were elected from a group of thirty who were trying- out. Mary Rutledge was chosen captain of the squad. The others who were elected were: Jean Fields, Anne Buchli, Dorothy Jones, Margaret Anne Allison, Mary Gianikas, Maxine Patton, and Robert Merriman. Jean Fields is the only member of the squad who has been elected three consecutive years. Mary Rutledge, Mary Gianikas, Anne Buchli, and Dorothy Jones have served two years. Ryan edged out a 5 to 4 win due to several Tech errors. Duncan defeated Tech in the sea- son's second game by the score of 8 to 2. Tech then wo11 its first and second game of the season over Franklin High School. The score was 5 to 4 and 6 to 3. Tech then played North High. North had a record of 6 wins and no defeats and was heavily favored to win. Tech went on a hitting spree and scored 13 runs while North could score only 6. This was ranked as the biggest upset of the year. Tech then lost two close games to Ryan and Howard by scores of 5 to 3 and 5 to 4. Tech won its fourth game by defeating Hillsboro l to 0 and then gained revenge for an earlier loss by defeating Howard 6 to 4. Hume-Fogg had a successful season with 5 wins and 4 losses to rank as one of the league,s better teams. ,4 J.
