Well, that old Ohio River kept rolling - trying to live down getting frozen solid last year. Some cars took the t'ice bridge far below the Brent- Spence. The baseball Reds didn't even make the playoffs - for a change, while the Bengals came so close e again. With the failure of yet another tax levy, the Cincinnati schools ca me closer than ever to closing for lack of money. A couple of very young men a Springer and Blackwell a became Mayor and Vice Mayor of the city. The Sheraton-Gibson Hotel tsee the sigm no longer shared the downtown plaza. 17,9332 Mann 5 .Jc'n A bus strike left a lot of our students stuck in their own neighborhoods for weeks around Christmas time. The teacher-student ratio was more like tutor-tutee. Just twenty miles away, the Ford Motor Co. decided to build a $500 million transmission plant. With several thousand jobs expected, many Hughes grads tpast and futurel might find themselves Shifting in that direction. On the state level and beyond, government officials and private groups continued a struggle now almost a quarter- century old: Whether public schools will be racially inte- grated. Many of our classes studied the issue, and almost everyone is affected by it.
