Charlene Wagner 24 Coleman Brown 1 Ann Moore Marie Jones Joe Meyer Students Get Involved al Learning Center and in Vocalional Education The Learning Center became a great success this year. Students were intrigued by the program and asked how they could join Many people thought that the Center was just for students who were experiencing troubles in their studies. 0n the contrary, the Center was open to anyone who might benefit from additional instruction and vocational information. Many students joined the program for enrichment purposes. The Center offered opportunities for learning in many subjects. New materials used by the Center included slides. filmstrips, movies, transparencies. pamphlets. tapes, books, and programmed materials. Channel Nine News taped sessions from the Lear- ning Center to present on its six o'clock news report. Activities were also taped for use in education classes at the University of Cincinnati. Several U. C. students worked as tutors in the Center. Geared to vocational needs. the Vocational Educa- tion Program attracted many students. This curriculum offered such courses as Teacher Aide, Child Care, Construction Technology, Health Careers, and Commercial Hospitality, most of which met for three bells each day. The Teacher Aide class went on assignment to various schools in the community. Students actually worked as teacher aides in the classrooms at Saint Monica, Saint George, Clifton, and Fairview Schools. The Child Care class was assigned to various day care centersthroughout the community and started helping at the centers soon after school began Iastfall. Building a house in the old boyst gym was the main project of the Construction Technology class. In Commercial Hospitality. students learned about hospitality for profit. Health Careers students set up a replica of an infirmary in order to practice duties of people in various health careers.
