LOUDENSLAGER Counselor and friend of Hughes boys, 1946-1964 They came for help; he gave it in full measure Along with hope and insightis growing treasure. He listened carefullyJ and then he guided Conlidently; soon their fears subsided. Reassured, they spoke and plans were made By boys who grew to manhood, unafraid; Or if they feared, remembering their friend Who bravely faced his problems to the end, They thought and think of words he did impart. He counseled, then as now, from heart to heart. Emilie W. Bullock 35 Mr. Loudenslager, faithful to Hughes as a counselor since 1946, will be missed, for he gave a great dwl of himself to the students through his work. Many boys have obtained schol- arships and jobs with his help through- out the years. Mr. Loudenslager, a native of Hal- leek, Minnesota, got his mastefs de- gree at the University of Kentucky. Before coming to Hughes, he had been a mathematics and science teacher in Kentucky and Georgia since 1926. The Ralph L. Loudenslager Schol- arship Fund was established in lieu of flowers. It will be used to help some student in furthering his education next year, EMOP'V M B H T Clam 017m; Elected Late in junior Year, Serw Senior: in 54 38 uAn apple a day keeps the doctor away. while the oHicers play,n is the motto of Robert Tudor, Carol Jackson and Carol Schell as they are caught loafing on the job by President George Jack- son. Presi- dent of Honor Society, Ray Matlock, conducted the pro- gram. Speakers Carol Schell, Paulette Orlemann, Bob Tudor and Gary Garitson commenced the assembly with talks on Character, Service, Leadership and Scholarship, the four ideals all members strive for. Assisting Ray were Alice Brand and Marilyn Tilford, who presented to the members pins, kindly given by Mr. Sutton, principal. A project, started in 1962, the highly competitive T01- lege Bowl? program, has gained overwhelming popularity with the Hughes student body. In May, Honor Society held its Cum Laudc banquet. Five seniors were recognized for having the necessary 92 per cent average for the past three years, Gary Garitson, Carol Schell, Bob Tudor, Ray Matlock and Joyce Bowling attained this outstanding scholastic record. A guitar club was formed and its members have performed in many assemblies. Senior choir has been busy participating in the Hai- loween-Hootenanny and the Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Concerts. Many members joined the MGR cast. In January, the Choir served as a demonstration group at the Ohio Music Educators Conference. The Adjudica- tors Clinic was held at the Sheraton Gibson Hotel, where Hughes received an excellent rating. Ensemble was honored by being asked to premiere a work depicting the life and work of William Holmes Mc- GuHey. Other engagements on its calendar included the P.T.A. and Night School Christmas concerts and appear- ances at Wilson Auditorium. Hope Lutheran Church, and Hughes feeder schools.
