He also studies efleetive words and tvpes of speeches. llrainatie students learn how to interpret writings and to study characters in a hook or play. The students have an opportunitvto develop their sell-expression through group discussion. debates. and readings. Three-Act Play Sages and Thespians are the clubs for students in the Hughes dramatics department. Under the direc- tion of Miss Frances Haas, the two organizations unite to present school productions during the year. Sages, a senior high dramatic society, is open to all interested students wishing to become a member. Sages gives the inenibers the opportunity to exchange ideas with others who are interested in bettering their understanding of dramatics. 'Thespians is Dramatic Honor Society for students who have received ten points by acting in plays or working behind the scenes. HB9 Problems in this Spagc Age have made Americans aware ol the importance of mathematics. Nlore students are en- couraged to take as many math courses as possible and to choose courses that best lit their capacities. A group of out- standing rnatliematies teachers trains students in the fun- damentals and guides them through the more advanced curricula. Qualilied students niav take an accelerated NUM Ht L W' course in math, while other college-bound students may take algebra and plane geometry. For the student going into business, several niatli courses are olliered to help him in the business world. All junior high students are required to take math.
