Mr. Edwin Stephens This year a new assistant principal has come to Hughes. Formerly principal ot Lyons Junior High School, Madisonville, Mr. Edwin Stephens now busies himselt with the many duties ot his ottice. His largest iob is assisting Mr. Sutton in the run- ning ot the senior high school. ln this capacity he supervises attendance, discipline, assemblies, loclcers, the bookroom, and the lunchrooms. Graduated trom Westminster College and the University ot Cincinnati, Mr. Stephens is well-qual- itied to cope with problems ot a growing popula- tion at Hughes. Owens, Jr., is the capable and well-liked assistant principal in charge ot the iunior high school. This is his second year at Hughes, and he has already become an indispensable person to the school organizations as supervisor ot all the iun- ior high clubs. Under his leadership the seventh, eighth, and ninth grades have become an important unit at Hughes. Mr. Owens graduated trom the University ot Cin- cinnati. where he received his BA., B. ot Ed. and M. ot Ed. degrees.

One ot the most important programs at l-lughes is the guid- ance program. ln the senior high school, the girls receive valuable aid trom Mrs. Jean Freshe, the senior high girls' counselor. The boys tale their questions and problems to the senior high boys' counselor, Mr. Ralph Loudenslager. Both coun' selors help students arrange their schedules, aid pupils in malcing plans tor their tuture atter graduation, and tind part- time jobs tor many students. Much time is also devoted by the counselors to helping stu- dents through conterences with their parents. Mr. Loudenslager and Mrs. Frehse work with the administration on the curriculum and help students ddiust to classes. Counselors Provide Guidance and Understanding For Students' Problems of Present and Future Directing the same important counseling program in the junior high school are the iunior high counselors. Miss Norma Fisher provides valuable advice and counseling tor the iunior high girls. This year, l-lughes has an addition to its counseling statt. The junior high boys, tor the tirst time, have a tull-time coun- selor. Mr. Marvin Rammels- berg, who tormerly worked at the attendance center, helps boys to a busier, happier lite at l-lughes. Miss Fisher and Mr, Rammelsberg pave the way 'lor girls and boys to eniov a successtnl 'ourney through iunior high.
