One has only to look at the talented pieces ot art work around the school and then realize that prospective artists are at work. With the excellent help of the art teachers the students can make creations that can win contests on city-wide, state-wide, and national levels. Our art class rooms are well equipped with the latest devices that are found in the artistic world.

At Hughes a student has an opportunity to pur- sue the never ending and always exciting search for understanding oi the universe in which we live. With a choice of science courses, in well-equipped classrooms, each student may increase his knowl- edge of his environment. Beginning with General Science, the search continues through Biology, Bot- any, Zoology, Physiology, Physics and Chemistry, keeping pace with the rapid developments in sci- ence during the past decade. Mr. Cecil Karrick, new instrumental teacher, points out the right notes for a beginning class. No one at Hughes High School is startled or surprised by the loud sounds coming trorn the third floor. lt is a well known fact that all of our musical groups are con- tained on this one tloor of the building. Under the direc- tion of Mrs. loan Cavally, who leads junior high singing, Mr. Bige Harnmons, in charge ot senior high niusic, and Mr. Cecil Karriclc, our instrumental instructor, our school is kept well supplied with never ending music.
