They are a mature, well-trained group of teachers who have kept abreast of the times. It is to them that we owe much of the credit for the ever present Hughes spirit of co- operation and loyalty so long a tradition in our soon-to-be cen- tury old school. We owe them much for their loyalty and devo- tion to learning and scholarship. J1 . While we cannot mention individually all the worthwhile classroom and outside achievements of each faculty member, we do appreciate them. We especially wish to extend good wishes to all who have accomplished new successes we may emulate ourselves one day. We hope we are able to take the perspiration that goes along with inspiration, sticking it out until we reach our goal, as they have done. We congratulate Mrs. George Howell of our language department, who was signally honored by being asked to France last summer as a guest of the French Republic. There she happily, but sadly, too, renewed many of her friendships made in pre-war days when she annually studied at the Sorbonne. We are proucl also of the successful showing of lovely water colors at CIosson's early this spring by Miss Gladys Dee Ervin, head of our Art Department. They were the outcome of a soiourn in southern California in the summer months of I946. I7
