7 HE BEST years of your life? Yes, they have been,-thus far: but if you continue to regard them so, you will always be looking backwards. lf Hughes High School has done anything for you, it should have helped you develop your potentialities so that each succeeding year, with its high adventure in living, will be the best year of your life. Edna Leroy Mrs. LeRoy is serving this year as Dean of Girls at Hughes. She helpfully sets our feminine group on the trail of that best year of life we all long to achieve in 1947. Miss Clara Fink and Miss Aria P. Schawe help us, as advisers to senior girls, to decide our problems for the years to follow our graduation in June. They also head the Honor League to which every senior girl at Hughes belongs. Mrs. LeRoy serves as sponsor and level-headed guide to our Student Council, now in its second year at Hughes. Miss Gladys H. Busch encourages and aids the freshman girl in her first year of life in a large cosmopolitan high school difficult year. MRS. W NDOUBTEDLY you have been told by your parents or by some person who thinks his experience iustifies his prediction, that you are living in the best years of your life. Some of you question this statement because of your impatience to get out into the world and earn your way. lt is your heritage to look ahead to the experiences in life that are but a fulfillment of what you have prepared yourself for while in school. Some of you have found that the best is not synonymous with having a so-called good time. The getting by with as little effort as possible is not an accomplishment that brings with it the feeling of contentment. This senior year may bring with it the ioy never before experienced 'of having reached a definite milepost. In that respect it may be called the best year of your life. lf, however, after a quarter of a century you look back and still claim it to be the best, your school has failed in its purpose to 9 prepare you to live a full and worthwhile life which becomes better as the years go by. My wish for you is that each succeeding year that ' is yours to live may be the best year of your life. Elmer W. Kizer MR. ELMER W. KIZER Principal MR. ARTHUR HAVLOVIC, Assistant Principal W HAT are the best years of your life? Probably no one knows precisely. They are of a certainty those years when your work is satisfying, your health is normal, your friendships are loyal and your faith is strong. May there be many such years in your life. Arthur J. Havlovic The boys of Hughes receive expert advice and guidance from Mr. Arthur Havlovic, our popular and smoothly efficient Mr. Gus. Mr. Gus, assistant principal of Hughes High, is the inspiring and able leader of our twenty-eight-year-old Hughes Club, our very active honor organization for boys of outstanding school lead- ership and citizenship. He and Mr. Clyde Hall each morning admit boys who've been absent from school. Mr. Ralph Loudenschlager, who is new to,Hughes this year, serves as a full-time counselor to our male popu- lation, Mr. J. Ferris Mathis acts as adviser to senior boys.
