X XX XS IZ l I Ulxaevm I Officers Iohn Anderson Preszdenr Helen C'arr1son L an Preszdenl Erma Pdeger Sccrclury Edwald Southworth Treasurer gazed upon those who had just come off thls glorlous shlp Hughes after four months of lntenslve tralnlng we wondered whlch ones from our rank would be able to surylve the hardshlps and the dangers of thls yowage By the end of the first day we felt so small and lnslgnlflcant that We wlshed we had never started on the trlp Those who had been on the shlp one or two months seemed so much more experlenced and so much older and as for those who had been on three months well they were IH another world' Th1s feellng perslsted among some of us consequently about two weeks after our departure ln a sexere storm some lost all courage and falled so utterlv to carry out the asslgned work that Captaln 'Xlerry announced that thev would be left behlnd at the next stop Everythmg went better the next two weeks howex er fox we were becomlng more used to the work At the end of a month the shlp stopped and those who could not stand the gaff were forced to depart Here another fughtened crowd boarded the slnp and took the place we had held the first month How dlfferent we felt now that we were no longer ln the lowest class' Xl e beffan to take more mterest ln our wo1 k for we felt that we were a more lmportant factor IH the runnmg of the shlp The thlrd month started Now we were the ones who were looked up to bv the lower classes we who lust two months before had thouvht ourselves sO lnsxgmficant' It was durmg thls month that we became more or,qan17ed and we began to realme more fully the benefits of thls xox affe The fourth month came only too soon for by thls tlme those of us who had surx IX ed the dangers and the hardshlps of the Journey knew that a wonder ful opportunlty had been presented to us VN e became the leaders of the shlp and It was up to us to set an example to all the others so that thex mlght applv themselx es to the best advantave Now the trlp IS ox er a trlp wlnch we shall nex er forget whose oppor tumtxes and teachmgs have been lnnumerable Perhaps the seas may have been rouvh and the work CllfHClllt but now as we look back ox er the voyage we know It was well worth whlle and when we go out ln the world we shall thank the Captam and hls able officers for guldmg us JOHN ANDERSON 90 HFLEN I QCOTT 70 Tuenly Ihrec XX is S 'il N NX t - TNQ N.
