Inc REACHING NEW HEIGHTS “Reaching New Heights,” the theme of the 1984-85 Valhalla, has been chosen to demonstrate the enthusiasm of Huffman High School’s student body and faculty in striving to make this the best year ever. As we embark on a new term, we cling to new dreams and new goals that will take us on a long lasting upward climb to reach new heights not yet realized. They actually expect ui to flnuh by 9:00! Teacher's pet — the pride of the Class. Studying hard??? 1984-85 WARRIOR AND MAIDEN As the Student Government Association President. Don is very busy. In addition to running our student government, he is a member of the National Honor Society, the Latin Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. Don was the recipient of the University of Alabama Outstanding Student Award. He was also a Chansonier and played Freshman and Jr. Varsity Football. Kristy, who is equally active at Huffman, is head cheerleader. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. Girls’ Ensemble and the Student Government Association. Kristy was voted Who’s Who Among American High School Students and Most Dependable by her peers. Kristy is a member of AGAPE and is a Class Favorite Every year the faculty at Huffman High selects two students to represent Warrior and Maiden. This honor is given to students who have shown their dedication to ths school through leadership and academic achievement. The Valhalla proudly presents the 1985 Warrior and Maiden. The Vikings opened with a fantastic show, as they bombed Bank’s Jets, 30-6. Their second big fight was against the Ml. Brook Spartans. After a heartbreaking first half, Huffman turned the game around creating another victory for the Vikings. For revenge. Huffman spitefully overtook the Woodlown Colonels, 24 7, in their 3rd season game. Frwm was next to be trampled, 17-13. The Vikings held tough and slid through Shades Valley with great field performance and a 17 14 win. Thanks to a super team cf fort from both defense and offense. Huffman mutilated the Thundering Herd of Barker and walked away, heads high, with a 36 0 shut out Our 5th ranked Vikings then went for the Black Bears of Austin and much to everyone's dismay, they broke a 60 record Disregarding their first loss, the Vikings moved to the top-ranked number 4 in the state Luck wasn't with the Vikings for the next couple of games. Huffman unfortunately lost to Carver and Vcstavia. but still had the power to destroy the Hewitt Huskies for victory number 7. Despite the losses. Huffman entered the 1st round of State playoffs, challenging the Mt Brook Spartans once again. An unhappy ending It was when the Vikings lost 17-10. Only a congratulations would be acceptable for the hard work and effort the Vikings displayed In the 84 season. During the 1983-84 season Huffman High School’s varsity team was the Deep South District Champs and State Champs in debate. The debate team and Individual event team won the overall Sweepstakes Trophy at the State Tournament at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
