Huffman High School Birmingham, Alabama Vol. XVII Sponsor Mrs. Kathy Bagley Editor...............Le’An Aloia WE ARE A CIRCLE People come ami people go with things they do and things they know Yet it seems they never stay around for long. Pul even though the faces change our love will still remain the same And still our life together will go on. Because we are a circle, and He is the center A beautiful circle, that anyone can enter. And all we have to do is love. All we have to do is love. We are a circle, and He is the center All through the summer and even the winter. And all we have to do is love. All we have to do is love. We are a circle and He fills our circle with love. Special times and special friends — it seems that they will never end. We laugh and sing — and oh. we love to play. Through the good and through the bad. remember all the times we had And each tomorrow brings a brand new day! God our Lord is ever waiting, ever loving and persuading All of us to be what we can be. When it seems we're at the end He somehow brings us hope again And somehow Jesus sets our spirits free. So keep building a circle where He is the center A beautiful circle that anyone can enter And all we have to do is love — All we have to do is love. We are a circle and He is the center All through the summer And even in the winter And all we have to do is love — All we have to do is love. We are a circle and He fills our circle with love. Fills our circle with love... Jesus fills our circle with love. by Kathy and the Huffman Methodist Youth We proudly dedicate this year’s Annual in remembrance of... The following week the team was robbed of a touchdown and lost the game to Mountain Brook by five points. Huffman had to meet rival Erwin High September 9th. and after falling behind twenty-one to seven at half-time, came back to win twenty-eight to twenty-three. Huffman then upset the number six ranked team in the state. Parker, twenty-nine to twenty-eight. September 17th. After a victory over Enslcy on September 23. the Vikings started thinking of state playoffs. but disaster struck. Huffman lost two games in a row. to Woodlawn on September 30th, and to Minor on October 6. To make up for the losses. Huffman won the last four games. The Vikings were victorious over Carver. Phillips. Hayes, and Banks. The victory over Banks, with Huffman winning in overtime, eleven to eight, won the Vikings a spot in the playoffs, and when Carver beat Woodlawn it gave Huffman the Region Nine Championship. Huffman then met the Central Tuscaloosa Falcons on November II. The Falcons jumped on Huffman early in the game and the Vikings knew it would be tough. The Falcons hadn’t lost a game all season. Huffman accomplished another miracle victory by upsetting Central thirty-five to thirty-four. This sent the Vikings to a rematch with the Woodlawn Colonels. Lady Luck wasn’t with Huffman on that night of November 18 and they were beaten by Woodlawn. This was a great accomplishment for a team who won three games last year and it just proves you should set your goals high and work hard to achieve them because anything's possible. Good luck next year. Huffman!!! 137 138 A well deserved rest. John Alfano makes tackle Tim Cruce defends Huffman territory. David Partridge looks for receiver. The friendships that have formed will last a lifetime. We have grown from Freshmen with many hopes and dreams about our .future to Seniors who are now about to begin new lives, some of us furthering our educations and some of us entering the working world. We realize, as we reflect, that the years we spent here were not just fun and games but that we also gained a valuable education we will need to succeed in today's competitive world. The 1983-84 Valhalla Staff has put together an annual which we hope will recapture many of the memories formed during your years at Huffman. The staff would like to express a special thanks to Mrs. Kathy Bagley, our sponsor, who helped us to develop this book (with much time and effort). We also wish to thank Mr. David Turner of Taylor Publishing Company for always helping out when we needed it most. CONGRATULATIONS SENIORS OF 1984!
