These two outstanding seniors arc chosen by the faculty to represent the ideal Huffman student. Their selection is based upon leadership, character, overall contributions to student welfare, and continuous scholastic achievement. These traits exemplify those of the ancient Vikings. The noble Warrior is known for his stamina, courage, and superb character. These qualities enabled him to dominate the Norwegian Seas. The Maiden, with her queenly stature, was a praiseworthy figure among the Nordic people. She was a perfect representation of honor, purity, and beauty. It is with great pleasure that the Valhalla announces the 1983 Warrior and Maiden. Under the advice and consent of the sponsor, Mrs. Meadows, the club is carrying on fund-raising activities. These include supplying materials for the French department, helping needy families throughout the holidays, and helping to pay for a few planned trips during the year. One such trip would be the State French Club Convention at the University of Alabama. The main purpose of the Club is to learn about French culture as it affects our nation. Officers: R. Burlcaon. The Vikings lost the next 5 games to Mountain Brook. Erwin, Parker, Woodlawn and Enslcy. All looked good again when the Viks defeated Phillips 14 to 7. The record did not meet the expectations that were hoped to be at the beginning of the year. This year’s outstanding players were Outstanding Offensive Lineman — Cary Sessions; Outstanding Offensive Back Bobby Bennett; Outstanding Defensive Lineman Ken Nevin; Outstanding Defensive Back — Jamie Arrington; and this year’s Captains were Bobby Bennett and Allan Franks. This year the Glenn Turner Scholarship Award went to Colin Hutto. The Bobby Duke Most Valuable Player Award went to Alan Franks. The Coaches 100% Award went to Bobby Bennett. The Viks faced a rough schedule, but did finish the season with a good record. But the record docs not tell the whole story as many of the Vikings losses were by only a few points. Together we encountered new sights and ideas from learning what a pep rally was all about to the complexities of an algebriac formula. There was a bewildering array of new faces but many new friendships to be formed. After our sometimes frightening yet fun-filled first year we became SOPHOMORES. Our voyage to the treasured pot of gold was well underway. We were familiar with the daily routine at Huffman and could settle down to the task of learning. With the passage of time, we took on a new name JUNIORS. We then realized that the goal was within reach. We could identify with the SENIORS and sense their eagerness and awe of life after high school. After this short year came to a close, we were SENIORS. As our search for the end of the rainbow and the pot of gold was drawing to an end, we realized we needed to cram as much knowledge into our heads as we could for the years after high school. When we reached the end of the rainbow, complete with graduation and a diploma, we realized that the true treasure was not that tangible piece of paper that we had so longed for, but something that we would carry with us for the rest of our lives — an education. Along the way, we also acquired lasting friendships and memories that would last a lifetime! Our four years at Huffman are very much like the journey through life. The variety of our experience is expressed in the following poem: Life is full of beauty . Life is truly gay ... If we do our duty ... If we stop to play ... Life is like the weather ... Sun and rain and snow ... 228 229 Life is like tomorrow.. Never here today ... CDrinkinfoof a sorrow.. That has passed away. Teeming with desire ..
