Pressing the Panthers turned into an easy task as the powerful Hudson Raiders clob- bered the Ellsworth Panthers in the Home- coming football game 40 to 7. Halftime entertainment was provided by the march- ing band and the majorettes in addition to the five lovely queen candidates in glittering convertibles and the class floats. After hard work, tears, and sweat, each class also produced a bulletin board and skit. Once again, and for the third year in a row, the Class of 1975 was declared the winner of the treasured cow- bell. An hour-long pepfest, sponsored by the Student Council, included presenta- tions by each of the queens, the Class skits, Mr. Kadidlo's pep talk and the tra- ditional yelling contest. Greg Hustad, Queen Peggy, Tami Schmit. t' Jeff and Buzz await a Panther! 8 Homecoming Victory Spotlights Homecoming Homecoming 9 King Kold Storms Through Blizzards! Mike makes a surprising catch! Along with the January blizzards came Sno Days. The weekend started out right with an exciting victory over River Falls. Next was the Student Council Pancake Break- fast. The winner of the pancake- eating contest was John Hibbard after he downed 49-just inching out Bruce Beauchamp with 45. Later that night, H.H.S. students danced to the music of Bermuda Triangle. At 9:00 George Madsen was crowned King Kold 1975. The other hopeful candidates were Buzz Mellum, Don Boumeester, Randy Bollom and Jerry Barr. All in all everyone had fun-whether shovel- ing, getting stuck, or just dancing. Ready, Sal? Wheeling off the king candidates. Who will be king? Nadine claims her king. George becomes royal blood. Snowdays 11 Memories Begin With Sunshine! The Junior-Senior Prom began as a pile of card- board, rope, telephone poles, and cans of paint in various sizes and colors. As the week progressed, so did the gym. It was transformed from a Friday night basketball court to a quaint wharf along a quiet sea. All those who attended will remember May 4th as the night of a beautiful prom. But, as the Seniors of 1975, we will also remember the worries, the laughter, and the work it took to make our Prom. At 8:30 the doors opened to a wharf scene with the theme song Sunshine provided by Benedict. King George and Queen Nadine reigned over the Prom until 11:00 when the music stopped and the magic night was over — but never forgotten! King George and his lovely Queen, And y,e and p|aye j on.„and on. Nadine. Sunshine brings good times. They could have danced all night... 12 Prom Prom 13 Fall Play Is Sellout Success! It's almost party time! Is it all that bad, Chris? IT HAPPENS EVERY SUMMER, with the qualified help of Mr. Gustafson and Mrs. Bleskachek, was produced on Friday and Saturday, November 15 and 16. Taking place in the early Sixties. The play centered around an edition of DEBUTANTE magazine. The Southern belle, Annabelle, along with her stable of three provided laughter for all. Flippy and Pudgey, Jennifer and Tod, de- veloped the production further into a hilarious comedy. Additional amusement came courtesy of the Sub-debs and their editors. Outstanding acting and cooperation made the performance a hugh success. It's finally June! Who, me? Custis, you don't understand! Aw, come on! Fall Play 15 Contest Play Earns “A” Rating This year's contest play SILENT SNOW, SECRET SNOW was entered in subdis- trict competition at River Falls on Nov- ember 2 . This was the first year that the H. H. S. students had participated in the contest play; therefore, they were proud of their A rating. The main pur- pose of entering the competition, stated director Joyce Dikkers, was to enlight- en the students in theatre arts, and through comparison with other schools, raise their own goals. For the most part, the students involved had a good time. They felt their hard work paid off well. The doctor examines the next victim. Backstage the play comes alive. Dancing into dreamland. Such a sorrowful time! Come to us... Come! Contest Play 17 Students At Work Steve Ecker brings in the bubble gum. Kathy Hemstock sells tickets while Jenny Smith makes popcorn. Margie, Isabel Karen do their good deeds for the day. A favorite hangout and place to work. Jim Anderson shines windows. 18 Students At Work Mike Schullo carries out Lani Jacobs, cashier, groceries. Raider Fans Cheer On The 1974-1975 Pep- fests were an exper- ience that few Raider fans would forget. The enthusiasm, the crowd, and cheerleaders created a fantastic mood which greatly helped in Conference League. Though most of the credit should go to the players of each particular team, one cannot overlook the part the cheerleaders and fans played. Pep- fests reflect a sense of strength and pride in our school and its athletic functions. In an effort to raise money for rural Indians, the Council instigated a can drive last fall that did not prove as lucrative as expected. Nevertheless, the Student Council stayed an active organization-all the way until graduation exercises when the members presented their annual Distinguished Citizen award for ser- vice to the school and community. We Work To Gather Memories Although we had lots of fun, this year's Annual staff had their work cut out for them. The addition of eight more pages kept us busy. From early summer when co-editor Kris Erick- son attended the Ripon workshop to the end of the year when we finished with a problem, our advisor. Miss Andrewson, suggested selling dill pickles on a toothpick! Football fans often heard our familiar slogan, A pickle for two nickles! Raidaires Shine On And On . . . Blue legs, white arms, blue and white dresses, and pom-poms were all seen in our halls when a home game or pepfest was scheduled - not to mention the bright, friendly smiles on the girls who wore them. These girls were our '74-'75 Raidaires. They brightened up our school with their new uniforms, dif- ferent routines, and school spirit. They represented our school and did it well. H-Club Officers: Jerry Barr Sec. - Tres.; Mike Richie, Vice President; George Madson, President. The 74-75 school year provided both challenges and opportunites for the H- Club. With their annual candy sale to kick off the years' activities, the new school encouraged others. In an effort to make work a bit more comfortable, the lettermen made their weight room more luxurious by installing carpets to warm the feet. Tak- ing advantage of the new gym, the club hosted a Celebrity Basketball game as their final project. Contracting the Minnesota Vikings, the H-Club found a formidable foe in the N.F.C. alumni team. Students worked in the library during their free periods, as well as before and after school. Mrs. Ronnin- gen, advisor for the group, coached the club in the skills of general library management and maintenance. 32 Library Club Say Cheese!! The Photography Club was created to meet the student's increasing interest in the art of creative photography. Be- fore the creativity, however, the members learned the im- portance of knowledge of the working parts of the camera and how to use the camera properly. The next step in creative photography was the process of film developing and the making of negatives. Once the members had mas- tered these steps, they put their knowledge and imagina- tion to work on their subjects. The club advisors were Mr. Ronning and Mr. Forester. Spreads News The True Blue Times newspaper was the end result of nearly thirty reporters plus typists, artists, business staff members, editors, and advisor Richard Gustafson's efforts every two weeks. The average ten pages of writing, typing, brain-wracking, and imagining won the general excellence award from the Wisconsin Chippewa Valley School Press Association for last October. The T.B.T. has won this award four of the past five years. Lori Sandell, co-editor, placed third in the Congressman's Cup Competition at the fall conference. The faces of staff members have changed an- nually, as must be expected, and it fol- lowed that the newspaper changed, also. The Telescope Club was one club in which the members weren't all in high school, but also con- sisted of junior high school students. Astronomy was considered a hobby and therefore members could continue being in the club as long as they wanted. However, the officers of the club had to be in high school. The officers this year were Tom Youngberg, President; Janelle Hardin, Vice-Pres- ident; and Miss Hughes, the adviser. The club used an eight-inch reflector telescope in Mr. Weitkamp's backyard. Literary The literary magazine was begun with the conviction that students could express themselves creatively through original fiction and nonfiction, poetry and dra- matic scenarios and even art and music. Thus, con- tributions were made by anyone, except faculty, to the staff's six editors who made publication selections on the basis of literary merit and content value in accordance with approved standards. Out of the twenty-eight boys, fourteen made up the team that would be playing in the matches. Six of the fourteen received letters. These six were: Mark Hayday, Tom Heywood, Bob VanTyn, Tim Beauchamp, Scott Mueller, Chris Yoerg and Stew Erickson. Practice for the team began on March 15, with the first match on April 16, and ended with the conference tournament at Dur- and on May 18. Don Boumeester, who placed fourth in State last year was injured an unable to finish his Regional match. Although the Raiders were besieged with injures they were able to send a senior, John Zeuli to Sec- tionals where he obtained a third place, not quite enough to seek him to State. Team possibilities seemed doubtful after the first game loss to Menomonie, but con- fidence was rapidly revived as the Raider football team pushed forward with victories over Chisago Lakes, Mondovi, Homecoming opponent Ells- worth, Prescott, and New Richmond. The Durand game rattled another setback. How- ever, Hudson determination and pride provided the controversial upset of Baldwin-Woodville's unbeaten record. With the win- ning of the Little Brown Jug and the defeat of River Falls, Hudson came back as confer- ence co-champions, sharing the title with Baldwin- Woodville. Five seniors received all con- ference honors and the Raiders had a final record of 6-1. Sen- iors Steve Breault and George Madson received All-State honors. Way to go Raiders! Luck didn't fall on their side and they be- gan receiving 2nd or 3rd standings. However, because of their consistency they were awarded third place in the Indianhead League. Bob Blair was the only skier eligible for the State Meet by placing in the top fifth overall at Sectionals. CONGRATULATIONS BOB!!! Mr. Carl waits for results. The Schussers were inched out by a fraction and received third place at the Sectional meet and were unable to compete in the State Meet on March 3. Mr. Grubbs looks at times. SECOND ROW: Coach Bowman, Reed Snyder, Jerry Barr, Richard Ahlquist, Tom St. Ores, George Madsen, Larry Gilbertson, Mike Laatsch. Destined to succeed as conference champions, the Raider Baseball Team had high hopes of going further. Displaying their new light blue uniforms, the Raiders romped through conference undefeated. Working their way through Reg- ional, the Raiders found no pro- blems advancing to Rice Lake Sectionals. Raiders played with- out the aid of all-conference pitcher, Mike Laatch, due to a broken wrist. With the defeat of Superior, the pre-season dream of being state contenders became a reality with novice pitcher Larry Gilbertson. Advancing to state was a first time achievement for Raider Hardballers. The team was downed in the first game with Sun Prairie by a score of 5-2. However, Hudson's pride and en- thusiasm could not be shattered by a defeat—the main thrill was 60 Baseball just being at state. Baseball 61 ABOVE LEFT: Larry Gilbertson, Bruce Peterson. This included running stairs and running stairs and running more stairs. When they were finally able to get out on the hills, they had a few minor problems such as having no full-time coach. Despite this they had a winning season and it ended with the girls in good standings. 70 Girl's Ski Team Mary Beer Starting the year with somersaults and headstands, the gymnastics team soon progressed to more dif- ficult stunts and developed their coordination skills. The team also acquired a fresh look with the purchase of new uniforms. Through competition, the mem- bers gained much confidence and experience. We showed our school spirit at our pepfests by winning many cheering contests. Our Homecoming float took second place, while our skit and bulletin board took third place. Many of us involved ourselves in fund- raisers, plays, sports, and be- came staff members of many organizations. 102 Administrators Face Many New Problems Class of 1975: Do you now have the desire to excel in every task you undertake? Do you consistently put forth your best effort? Do you place a high priority on the basic values of our society such as: honesty, self-discipline, respect for law and authority, respect for private and public property, responsibility, democracy and concern for your fellowman? What will you do to make this great world an even bet- ter place in which to live? Just what will be your contribution to our society? Everybody has questions. Where are the an- swers? You already have provided some of the answers. The answers, fellow learners, are in you and how you live your lives. May you always be able to. make something worth- while and positive out of each of life's situations. As always, the faculty put in another hectic year of plan- ning, teaching, advising, and moving into our new school. Besides advising many new clubs and organizations, the faculty developed many new courses. The Social Studies and Home Economics Depart- ments teamed together to present the course In A Con- sumer's World, while the English department offered Advanced Writing during the second semester. The Math and Science Departments offered new courses in Com- puter Programming and Ad- vanced Science which con- sisted of two quarter-length courses in an area of scienti- fic interest. As well as dev- eloping new courses, the fac- ulty assisted in the move into the new home of Hudson High School. Many art students have just as much talent as a star athlete, but they never get as much recognition and ap- preciation. So this year the annual decided to display some of their projects for them. With the move to the new school, the art department gained many new facilities for art students. ABOVE: Jill heiamarm, woier tuiur. RIGHT: Kris Solsvig, oil painting.
