Prepared to cool their way through the routine of another day, they take their places in the caverous hallway at approximately 7:45 A. M. After chewing the bull for fifteen minutes, they begin to amble off toward the classes of their choice. Those trying to decide whether phy-ed is odd or even this week, conclude that the whole system is odd and usually go to study hall. Others, who start out the day with such exciting subjects as German or physics, stay awake just long enough to hear the announcements or Mr. Parfitt's rundown of yesterday's game. As the day progresses, the relief of a lengthy 8-minute break be- tween second and third hour causes students to Lxjcome aroused. Many are on the constant lookout for the mad fountain molester, and some even report hearing the voice of Mr. Weitkamp among groups of senior boys. V a But all their cares and troubles are forgotten along with the lunch bell as everyone races for Mort's Delicatessen or the hot lunch line. In just as much of a scurry, food is gulped, given away, or thrown away so everyone can rush back to the hall to see what's happenin'! To the dismay of many, lunch hour is interrupted by the fifth hour class. The rest of the afternoon is passed with the digestion of food and planning for the night's activities. The beginning of seventh hour marks the end of the day for many seniors rate the advantage of open study hall. (Many rate the advantage of open class. ”) For those who remain, 3:00 marks the end of the day, and everybody races out the door, waves hi to Dave Wittek and heads for some place he would rather be. His daughter, Angelique, is in love with a young man by the name of Cleante. But Ardin insists that she shall marry a man of his choosing, the son of a doctor and a doctor himself, Thomas Defois. Toinette, the maid, and Beralde, Ardin's brother, do everything pos- sible to dissuade Ardin in his determination to marry Angelique to the stupid Thomas. They are fond of Angelique, and, to further her cause and clinch her affair with Cleante, they ridicule Ardin and his doctors in every conceivable way, trying to show up Ardin's folly and the doc- tor's stupidity. Beline, Ardin's wife, is determined that Angelique will become a nun so that there will be no one but her, Beline, to inherit Ardin's estate. By many tricks, Toinette and Beralde show up Beline as the mercenary she is and the doctors as the fools they are. They suc- ceed in getting Ardin's consent for the marriage of Angelique and Cleante, and, in the end, they persuade Ardin to become a doctor. fJJJt i§§® iy f f I . ? ; • ' ♦,? rAjtJk-.- iAtLt i AV im A S S E M B L Y P A R A D E HOMECOMING 1972 G A M E Z0-H Z0 0n STRIP Mrs. Qualls, can advisor I CAN, YOU CAN--WE ALL CAN... Despite this year's Middle Border Conference standing, the Hudson Golf Team faired well against such teams as Durand, New Richmond, and River Falls, all of whom were conference leaders. The golf team had no graduating seniors this year and was composed mainly of sopho- mores and juniors. The ''Swingers had to face unpredict- able spring weather and even had a meet canceled because of snow! Future plans include playing at such noted golf courses as Tatten Park and Hazeltine. 1972 CONFERENCE STANDINGS 1. Durand 2. New Richmond 3. River Falls 4. Mondovi 5. Hudson 6. Spring Valley 7. FRIENDS: THIS SCHOOL YEAR WAS PACKED FULL OF EVENTS WORTH RE- MEMBERING AND OTHERS WE WOULD JUST AS SOON FORGET. AS WE PERT THIS BOOK TOGETHER WE KEPT IN MIND THAT THIS WAS FOR YOU BECAUSE YOU HELPED TO MAKE IT. OUR JOB WAS MERELY TO PUBLISH A BOOK THAT WOULD HELP YOU CAPTURE AND RETAIN ALL THE MEMORIES THAT WILL BE TREASURED IN THE FUTURE. THERE ARE SO MANY DREAMS BEYOND YOUR NIGHT, SO MUCH SUNSHINE BEHIND YOUR GREY WALLS DON'T LET YOUR DREAMS PASS YOU BY! 109 BADGER BOY The Rotary of Hudson sponsored Jeff Brown as the representative to the 1972 Badger Boys' State session. This was the thirty-first session of Badger Boys' State. The purpose of Boys' State is to give its participants a better understanding of how our government works and the duties and problems of its elective officials. It also gave Jeff a chance to meet and work with many outstanding students of Wisconsin and to participate in sports and musical activities. Jeff Brown Kim Hayday 110 BADGER GIRL I heard It's supposed to be an HONOR to be here!” muttered many times during the first few days I was at Badger Girls' State last summer. At first nearly everyone felt that there were other things she'd rather do than study govern- ment. But by the end of the week we all realized that being a representative to Girls' State really is a valuable experience, not only because of what one learns about the functions of state gov- ernment (this one picks up involuntarily any- way), but also because of what one learns about people. In one week I learned how to accept other people and their ideas more willingly, and I realized how easy it is for 500 girls from dif- ferent backgrounds to switch from strangers to friends in a very short time. Unfortunately, no one can really understand this except former citizens of the state of Badger, which is another reason why it is such a priviledge to be one. [oseph Torkildson AFS REPRESENTATIVE TO IRAN Last summer I had the chance to live with two very different and very interesting Iranian families. The first was a very typical, con- servative religious Iranian family. We lived in a small village, and I met many other young people from that walk of life. My father was a building contractor in Tehran, and my mother was a hard- working housewife. All five of my brothers and sisters worked to make my stay very enjoyable. I spent my last four weeks in a very different situation. My fa- ther was a university professor; my mother was a midwife, and my host sister had been an AFS student to America the winter before. This family was very liberal, both politically and socially. I went to many parties with my college- aged sister, and met many of the young college students, hearing their views on both Iran and the U.S. Being an AFS student was a fabulous experience, and I hope there will always be enough young people who will face the challenge of being an AFS student and take advantange of such a wonderful opportunity. AFS REPRESENTATIVE FROM THAILAND Mary Gherty Pannipa or POM Chemnasiri was the 1972-1973 AFS student from Thailand. She stayed at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Eul- berg. It wasn’t difficult for Pom to adjust to her new family. She and her newly acquired sister, Gwen, had a lot in common. They both enjoy many of the same activities and are very outgoing and lively. Although Pom is small in stature, she has a big heart and made many friends easily. It didn't take her long to be the BIG hit she is vith Hudson High students, faculty, and the entire community! AFS REPRESENTATIVE TOECUADOR Living in the Andes Mountains of Ecuador during the summer of 1972 was the most interesting and educational experience of my life. After the first problems with communication were solved, my family spoke Spanish; and while I had never studied the language before, I could understand and learn from my surrounding environ- ment. The Ecuadorian life style is very different from the one I had left behind in Wisconsin. My family, the Proanos, showed me a summer I will never for- get. They made it a family project to show me their country. I also learned that AFS is more than carnivals and walk-a-thons. That it is a very worthwhile organization consisting of people giving of their time and of themselves enabling students to learn first hand, and hopefully understand, their neighbors in foreign lands. Ideally everyone should have the opportunity to take part in such a program; maybe then the people of the world could learn to live in peace. REPRESENTATIVE SENIORS Rochelle Ruemmele Robert Kolashinski Representative Seniors Congratulations to Rochelle Ruemmele and Robert Kolashinski, two outstanding sen- iors of the 1973 class of the Hudson Senior High School, have been chosen Representa- tive Seniors. This Senior Award was begun in 1928 when the graduating class appropriated the funds to finance the award, and the faculty was to suggest a set of worthwhile character- istics which a high school senior should possess. In the opinion of the faculty one should be able to live with other people, to exhibit a degree of leadership, and independence of others, to have a knowledge of right and wrong, to determine to lead a wholesome life, to appreciate that all work no matter how humble is as important for the welfare of the community as the position of higher rank, to seek more knowledge with the guidance of parents, teachers, and superiors, to possess character of a quality in keeping with a students’ age and training. Rochelle and Robert rated highly in these worthwhile charac- teristics. Academically Rochelle leads her class, is very capable, dependable, reliable, and an untiring worker in any group of which she was a member. Robert's good citizenship, friendliness, dependability, and all around student adaptability have made him another of the choices for the 1973 Representative Senior. The faculty is pleased to present the awards to these deserving students. •vv- v • • ; - v • • . vV- -■•.•. .
