WILMOT 9 The Case of the Missing Jello or The Phantom Green Jello Meanies It is a happy day at Hudson High School. The students are happy. Everything is hunky-dory . . . 10 There are cries from the kitchen: someone has stolen the 37 boxes of lime jello! I was all set to add the water- I turned and it was gone ! They must be found. 37 boxes of jello is no laughing matter! They looked in the attic. 11 They looked everywhere ... it was nowhere to be found. They asked a moonlighting janitor. He didn't know. They asked a whiz kid ... He didn't know either. 12 So the Junior G - men were called in. They looked all over. And guess what? They found it! Where did you find it, they asked. The Junior G - men replied, It was in the bottom of the pop cooler in the teachers' lounge. But who would do such a thing ? These are the culprits, answered the G - men. But why did they do it? They wanted it for the teachers' picnic. We would have returned it, cried the culprits. So ends the case of the missing jello. And once again, peace and quiet reign at Hudson High. H. S. We arrive to find the clocks at 5:15. Small wonder, they've been that way for the past three months. If you're a senior boy, you'll take up residence on the steps behind the bench, this year populated by juniors. First hour, you either sleep, or pretend you’re sleeping. That way you're prepared for physics, the unofficial scoreboard. Activity brings a little excitement to the day, especially to those on the archery range. Mass communications has the cream for third hour - and the turkey for Thanksgiving. Moving right along into recess ( or noon hour as it is laughingly called,) between hot lunch and Mort’s, it's BRING your lunch or starve! Fifth hour Math Analysis. . =. 2+2=5 - Inflation. Welche Stunde ist es? Students are busy rehearsing for German Class. Mass exodus from study hall last hour, as the seniors may leave! But for those lucky enough to have Advanced Science, there are pictures to be printed, and frogs to be dissected while the liberated seniors make faces through the windows in the doors. As the world turns and the bell rings, . . . the day of a Hudson High Senior ends. Elizabeth Homes M.U.N.A. When Marj Schneider, who was graduated in 1971, and I were called to Mr. Heiting's office in November, 1970, our first thought was What did we do? Then he told us we'd been chosen Hudson's 1971 representatives to M. U. N. A. (Model United Na- tions Assembly. ) We couldn't believe it. ME? At meetings with Mrs. Heiting we collected, read and discussed U. N. material. Later we received a letter informing us we were the hon- orable representatives of Lebanon. On April 15 we flew to Winnipeg, Canada, to at- tend the M. U. N. A. Marj and I stayed with a wonder- ful couple, the Rothsteins. We made many new friends and had the chance to par- ticipate in a replica of the real U. N. I realize now the great effort nations must make to give the world peace. James Miller Badger Boy Badger Boys' State was truly an interesting experience. Meeting so many boys from different schools with differ- ent ideas and beliefs was re- warding. It gave me a deeper understanding of how our national, state and local political leaders are elected and how much work goes into their choosing. However, Badger Boys' State was a great deal more. It taught me to express my ideas without fear, while at the same time, I could honor the ideas of others. I learned to make friends more easily, and I also discovered what schools mean to different people. Barbara Larsen Badger Girl Badger Girls' State con- vened on June 19 when 500 girls converged on the Un- iversity of Wisconsin at Mad- ison campus. During the week, all 500 of us attended lec- tures, many city and council meetings, and held mock elections. I can still see some of the many hikes and meetings - including our trip to the capital building where our girls' congress held the yearly session. Although those things still remain in my mind, the one thing that will always stay with me is how all of the girls could become so close and work so easily to- gether. I'll never forget all the friends I made. I only wish everyone could have the chance to have the same experience. 34 Teresa Rouleau R epresentati ve To Greece I was lucky enough to be- come a member of two families, both of which were very different from one an- other. Even though we lived in a city of 75, 000, my first family, the Tzamalis, lived the same primitive way their ancestors had lived long ago in the mountains. But we did have a sense of peace and contentment derived from this simple way of life. My second family, the Davos, were more modern. We had many comforts but still a slower pace of living. Perhaps the most important lesson I learned from my AFS experience is that peo- ple's similarities outnumber their differences. Perhaps when we learn to accept the people of the world as they are, we shall have peace. Until then, sto kalo! Roberto Ferrazza Guest from Italy It was the 6th of August when I arrived in Hudson. First, I went home to the Hibbards. Soon we started to know each other, and after a little while we felt less embarrassed. After living with the Hib- bards for about three months, I moved to another family, the Edvrin Browns. How will I ever be able to thank these families enough for all they have done for me? My return to Italy will be rich with new ideas and at- titudes toward the wonderful people who are hosting me, and this fantastic country. Roberto Ferrazza via Raf- faello Giovagnoli No. 6 00152 Roma Italy Leslie Mueller R epresen ta ti ve to Switzerland For nine weeks I lived in a small village in Switzerland as a member of the Walder family. Helping in the gar- den, eating cheese and bread, and hiking in the mountains became a part of my daily living. Thanks to many open hearts and patient and under- standing people, I came to know the Swiss way of life. Peace and understanding be- tween nations is possible when there is peace and understanding between per- sons. And so I thank every- one who made this great ex- perience possible for me in the hope that they will continue to support a very worthwhile organization. 35 BACK ROW: Thomas Abendroth, Julie Alwim, Kevin Anderson, Diane Armbruster, Debra Bahneman, Steve Bakken, Jean Barber, Gwen Barron, Timothy Bauernfeind, Steve Becken, Janet Beer, Jeffery Beer. Congratulations, King Womba! Highlighting a winter weekend of fun - including snowman building contests, a Saturday morning Pancake Breakfast, and sliding at Coon’s hill - Mark Norvold was crowned King Kold at the Saturday evening dance. Sno-Days January 28 and 29, 1972 Registration marked the summer's end on August 27, 1971, but it didn't really hit H. H.S. students until classes started on August 30. Oh well, one more year to stumble through. Queen Joan reigned on September 24 with Hudson hosting Mondovi. Sore feet reigned on October 2 with the AFS walk-a-thon, but the participants recovered in time to enjoy the two day vacation October 7-8 due to the NWEA conference. They also had time to urge their parents to vote in favor of October 12's bond issue. Students dis- appointed by the bond issue's failure were cheered up by the new activity period pro- gram which began on October 22. (Remember the long wait?) Students agreed with, disagreed with, but thoroughly enjoyed Bob Larson's presentation of modern music on November 9. H. H. S. had a first on November 22-24 with its Red Cross can-drive, netting 1,413 cans and an early school dismissal. What a way to start Thanksgiving vacation! The Music Department presented its Christmas Concert on December 12, just in time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas before vacation started December 17. Ah! Blissful days! Too band January 3 came so soon. Finals coincided with the Miss Hudson Pageant, making things tough for 25 girls and their escorts, but Michelle Germaine came out with top grades. Congratulations to King Womba and the makers of the pancake breakfast on January 29. The Valentine's Day Dance, February 11, was a sweetheart and so was the AFS weekend March 23-26. Easter vacation was gratefully taken by the H. H.S. students with spring fever on March 31. Classes resumed on April 4. Prom started out the merry month of May with Color My World , on May 5. The Pop Concert, May 13, was a glow of music and color and gave the seniors a good send-off on May 19. Just a few days left now until they're on their own. May 31 - the last day of classes! 112 Published by Josten's Nalional School Services Ltd. Winnipeg. Manitoba.
