Thank you, Mr. Fegley. 4 Representative Senior Gerald Johnson Gerald Johnson has been chosen the 1971 Representative Senior for Hudson High School. Every year since 1927 the faculty has selected a representative from the graduating class. Among the worthwhile characteristics which a high school senior should possess are loyalty, cooperation, char- acter, a democratic and ambitious spirit, high moral prin- ciples, leadership, and scholarship. Gerald participated in three sports, basketball, baseball, and football for three years. In his fourth year he was a sports captain and a member of the H Club. Other activities in which Gerald took part include the school newspaper, class play, and prom committee. He was a class officer as well as an ad- visory officer. He is a well adjusted student and has a good scholastic record. He gives a good account of himself to his family, church, and community. The faculty is pleased to present the award to Gerald Johnson, who has been a dependable, friendly, indust- rious, smiling, democratic student of Hudson High School. Congratulations, Gerald. 5 We Reflect Upon ... Our Year, Our Hopes, Our Dreams, Our Plans, Our Thoughts, We Remember . . . Our Preparation. After school, down town Hudson was treated to a parade. Floats, Queen candidates, H. H.S. band and the honored guests, Mr. Kadidlo and Mr. Krupa, made up the parade. That night at Newton Field the Big Blue Machine not only plucked the Cardinals but also de- feated them 30-16. Who made it up? Oh, I did? Comments such as these flew around the room as the 1971 annual staff prepared for each deadline. Arranging the pictures on the pages, cropping photos, and even amateur pho- tography were only a few of the tasks undertaken by co editors, Joanne Isaacson and Pamela Groves, under the supervision of Mrs. Gilbertson. Assisting them were junior editors, Jo- anne Van Kirk and Susan Chandler. Subscriptions were handled by senior business managers, Nancy Selbrede and Jana Martin, and Karen Anderson and Connie Braun, junior business managers. Early in the school year Wichman Studios took the pictures for the 1971 True Blue. Doing the sport pages were Richard Friedlander, Timothy Wells, Earl Fatheree, and Paul Bourget. Theresa Kinney was the feature editor while Jane Lund and Nancy Todd were the typists. BACK ROW: S. Krueger, R. Rollheiser, J. Beer, P. Mc- Cormack, R. Nickleby. EIGHTH ROW: Douglas Rein- hart, S. Future Teachers of America Learning about the different fields of teaching and the requirements of each along with the development of character and leadership in each member are the main objectives of the Future Teachers of America under the supervision of Mr. Ogland and Miss Hughes. F.T. A. members learn more about teaching through the use of movies, quizzes, and speakers. Senior members add to the discussions by relating experiences of their practice teaching. Each year the F. T. A. awards a scholarship to a senior going into the teaching profession. This money is earned by selling popcorn at home basketball games. 40 BACK ROW: Mr. Finger, advisor, Timothy Wells, Gregory Worrell, Daniel Wisner, Rodney Brooks, Patrick Ah- rens, Gary Nerby, Mark Loughney, Bradley (Brad) McConaughey, Stephen Mabie, Zane Bollom, Carl Olstad, Dan Affolter, John Larson, Dale Affolter, Robert Lillevold, Dave Heffron, William O'Connor. A. or Future Farmers of America, is a national organization established in public secondary schools for students interested in studying vocational agriculture. This intra-cur- ricular activity is based upon the qualities of leadership, sportsmanship, cooperation, serv- ice, thrift, scholarship, citizenship, and patriotism and spurs character development, im- proved agriculture and organized recreation. The Hudson chapter maintains the national F. F. A. standards by holding monthly meetings which include recreation, awarding scholar- ships, promoting safety, giving awards, holding parent-son banquets, attending state and nat- ional F.F. A. conventions, and by growing an experimental grain and com plot and a school forest. Attending the state F.F. A. convention at Green Lake, Wisconsin, last June were Steve Senrick and Gregory Worrell. Michael Anderson attended the National convention in Kansas City, Missouri. Robert Waxon was awarded the state Farmer degree at the convention. FUTURE FARMER OFFICERS: BACK ROW: Timothy Wells, president; Patrick Ahrens, A.F. The highs and lows The pleasure of a good book The joys of math The crowded halls The good years The quick changes Hot lunches The fun hours of chemistry FACULTY Mr. Ogland As the school year closes, I trust that each of you can view the year with a great deal of personal satisfaction in the success and accomplishments which you have had. To you Seniors, who are the ninetieth class to graduate from Hudson High School and join the more than three thousand fifty alumni, I congratulate you. And, as you leave high school may you follow that which was written many years ago by Sanskrit- Every Today, well lived, makes every Yesterday a dream of happiness and every Tomorrow a vision of hope. Look, therefore to Today. Mr. Heiting During the past years many changes have oc- curred in the social consciousness of man. Innovations have also occurred in the school curriculum to broaden your opportunities to understand life as it occurs throughout the world. These social changes and innovations, pro- perly used, can be a tremendous benefit for understanding all classes of people and the fulfillment of life. We hope you gained much from the opportun- ities offered and will be willing to give much in return. We wish you success in whatever endeavor you pursue. Mr. Cassutt I would like to congratulate the class of 1970-71. You, the graduating class must leave the high school environment and create a life of your own. You are enter- ing a stage in your life where the deci- sions that you make now will be very im- portant. The moral training and attitudes that you have formulated the past three years will have an effect on your success or failure. We hope that the teaching and direction that we have given you will serve you as guidelines for the future. Mr. Luedtke Now our graduates of 1971 may look back and evaluate their accomplishments of the past. High school graduation is but one step leading to your involvement in society today. Those of us in education sincerely hope all graduates have acquired the proper attitudes and skills necessary for respon- sibility and success in their adult lives. May success follow our graduates through- out life in whatever they might pursue. '71 HAS OVERCOME! 83 A Day in the Life of a Senior Who in heck thought up a class at seven o'clock in the morning? And so, with such encouraging comments as these, the seniors watch another sunrise begin their day. The first two hours creep by with the usual crew snoring in the back of the room as Mr. Bowman yells, Cut the driwle! and Mr. Krupa explains the finer points of the electric light bulb. Activity period brings a welcome break to the monotony of the day. (How come everybody signed out for Mr. Fegely's advisory?) Third and fourth hours pass as usual, but everyone wakes up in time for lunch when Mort gets the business and the bench is polish- ed by the seats of the seniors' pants. World lit. students scribble busily during the afternoon hours, undisturbed by the sounds coming from below. (What unsuspecting girl has wandered into the sixth hour industrial arts class now?) The clocks on the walls of the seniors' last hour classrooms greet 316 expectant eyes as the day finally rolls to a close. Everyone heads for ensembles, sports practice, G.A. A., Miss Hughes' room, work or home, but they'll all be back again tomorrow, ready as ever for another day. Right, Seniors? DENNIS ARMBRUSTER Chess Club 3; Intramural Sports 3,4. AFS Representative My summer in Germany as Hudson's AFS representative was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I will never forget Anne and Christianne, my sisters, and Karl-Friedrich, my broth- er, my parents, the Fiedlers, or any of the wonderful people I met through AFS. Learning to appreciate and understand how other people live is a big step along the road to bringing about peace. I hope Hudson High School will continue in its support of AFS to give others the oppor- tunity of becoming world citizens. Goodwill Ambassadors I arrived in Hudson during a rainy night at 2:00 a. m., August 16. I began an exciting year with Mr. William Fried- landers family. Soon I knew that in spite of the differences with my home, I could live friendly and comfortable with an American family; the Friedlanders were generous hosts. I soon got used to my new life. In summer was the St. Croix River; in winter was the skiing and the snow, things that in my life I'll never forget. I'll always remember those places because those were the places in which I felt free and with nature. This year I am lucky to be an AFS stu- dent in Hudson where I live with the Schneiders. It is a fun experience to have four sisters, Kathy, Marj, Sue and Beth. It is a great experience to be here in the U. S. Hudson High School is so much different from Danish high schools. You have lots of activities going on all the time. All your sports, especially skiing, are great. I love Hudson, The location is beautiful and I have met many wonderful people here. Thank you. But the year goes fast, I have learned a lot of your way of life; I have made a lot of friends, and when the time comes for me to leave, I say to you, Good bye, see you later, see you always in my memories. Perhaps one day I well have the immense joy to visit you again. THANK YOU, HUDSON! THANK YOU, AFS! THANK YOU EVERYBODY! I have had a lot of fun! Eduardo La Falce Moreno 232 Rio Cuarto Cordoba 107 Rep. Argentina I will never forget how openminded and kindly people here have been to me. This year is the most rewarding year in my life, full of exciting experiences. Let us all walk together and try to love one another. Right now! Ill Ripon, Wisconsin, was host to Badger Boys' Staters during the week of June 12-20, 1970. This was the twenty-ninth session of Badger Boys' State. The Rotary of Hudson sponsored David Bertelson as the 1970 Boys' State representative. While David was at Ripon, he participated in the running of mock city, county, and state departments. A typical day included lectures, meetings, and conventions. The purpose of Boys' State is to give its participants a better understanding of how our government works and the duties and problems of its elective officials. It also gave Dave a chance to meet and work with many out- standing students of Wisconsin and to participate in sports and musical activities. The greatest thing about Badger State, Dave remarked, was meeting new people and sharing ideas and problems with them. It was interesting to hear and compare pro- blems from kids outside of Hudson and find out that not only problems, but also good things were similar in other towns and cities. I can now fully appreciate the opportunity to attend Badger State. The democratic process and the true friendships I acquired will not soon be forgotten. Badger State 1970 The twenty-seventh session of Badger Girls' State convened June 23 and closed June 20,1970, at Madison, Wisconsin. The Parent Teachers Association sponsored Jana Martin as this year's Badger Girls' State repre- sentative. The University of Wisconsin in Madison was host to over 500 girls from all corners of the state. The girls set up their own mythical state of Badger complete with county, town, and city divisions. Jana was elected coroner of Hoard county at one of the mock elections. Party conventions were held and the Girls' State’s own Congress held a session in the Capitol building. The purpose of Girls' State is to promote good citizen- ship and make the young people of today more aware of how our government works. Being a Girls' State representative was one of the most fantastic experiences I've ever had, commented Jana, But the thing that made Badger State really great was the girls I met and the friendships I made.
