Opinions differ in regard to this, but in a great majority of cases the testimony of those in a position to know is that athletics, properly conducted, not only do not hinder the mental work of the students but actually help it. People not acquainted with school conditions are sometimes apt to think that because we have a football team over which the students become enthusiastic for a few weeks in the fall, or abasket ball team which plays a half dozen games during the winter, the minds of the entire body of students from September to June are absorbed in ath- letics and nothing else. That such is not the case can be proved in our own school at the present time.
