Pradeep Kakkar, our foreign exchange student from Calcutta, India. School for me was one big adventure. Fortunately, my grades were decent enough to keep me out of trouble in that respect - so I could do a lot of other things. I played every game that we had in our school . . . and as a result, I wasn't really good in any! Still, I could dribble around with a hockey stick, kick a soccer ball, handle a cricket bat, serve on a tennis court - in short, be a pretty good jack-of-all- trades. When I was in the pre-senior - or junior - class, I was made a House Captain, i.e., one of four boys who lead the four teams into which the whole high school is divided. The four teams, or houses, have a competition throughout the school year for the Best House Trophy - and this includes every activity in school from studies and games to punc- tuality and contribution to the school newspaper, and so on. There is, too, a gold medal awarded by the Headmaster to the best of the four House Captains. Guess who got the medal for 1961-62 - yes, it was me . . . I don't know how! Homecoming came early this year, though not quite early enough for the court-five seniors and three juniors. The night was beautiful. Everyone was happy. Only two things caused sadness-we lost our game, and the school camera didn't work, as you can see. Homecoming Queen Suzi Gildersleeve The candidates for queen: Linda Berthold, Suzi Gildersleeve, Mary Morgan, Camie Taylor. The unphotographed candi- dates for king were in the locker room. Dusty Miller, Hal Luce, Ray Poje, Ron Stone. 2 Pigskin Prom ,- ,. . pccfx A busy evening . . . Sue stood on tiptoe to recrown Dusty . . . Doc Joslyn won a turkey, but he apparently wasn't happy about it . . . Everyone tasted some new flavor in the punch-a junior idea . . . Mr. Fawcett doubled as chaperone and star drummer. U Drama Club In the past, the drama club has given the school excellent performances of long plays such as Moby Dick and The Diary of Anne Frank. This year it has given us instead two one act plays-one at Christmas and one in the spring. In order to present them more skillfully, the club has met with an in- structor to study make-up, it has made trips to Kent State to see university plays. It can be easily said, then, that the drama club has learned and has shown us well what they have learned. First Row: Kim Martinez, Vice-Presidentg Beth Burrell, Treasurer. A platform and chairs replaced the front steps. Tumblers, dancing majorettes, dance band, and informal vocal groups entertained the court which was as impressive as in years Past. The freshman girls and the traditional May pole. y i? ,- 'R- The seniors came in proudly. 3 K-1--av A hopeful handshake and a diploma. Groduotion 1963 The graduating class of 1963 did the traditional things during their year. They studied a little, filled out college and job applications, and had fun. They even made some money by serving dinners and selling programs and mums. Then they spent it - one thousand dollars for The Log and the rest for a trip to Cedar Point. It was a happy class. There was only one high school duty left after this-to sing the Alma Mater for the last time. The vocal music department hit new heights in ex- cellence this year. The choir, under the direction of Mr. Gamble and the able assistance of Mrs. Center, did an admirable job on some more difficult and modern pieces, and the Swing Chorus' fame spread throughout the county. The Junior and Senior En- sembles, under the able hand of Mrs. Grams, enter- tained at such things as the Christmas assembly and the talent show. With so many new precedents set, we wait eagerly to see the next performances of all of these groups. Senior Ensemble ,AV 1. 1' Q y y , 3 .I , ,,,.,i 1 ' ' ' 1 M ' l 5 ' , - V 1 1:9 . Coloruard-head, Tina Mackenzie E 1 Dance Band Majorettes - head, Kathy Christman 62 P Concert Band Dancing Majorettes- head, Linda Davidson The marching band grew this Fall with the addition of the dancing majorettes to its marching ranks. The varsity majorettes contributed to the innovations by twirling with fire several times, much to the distress of their parents and to the delight of their audience. Randy Pope and jim Bedell kept the band and its auxiliary groups in line, figuratively and literally, during the whole marching season. This Winter and Spring the concert band and dance band performed better than ever for their fans. Especially entertaining was the background perform- ance of the dance band for the Caliph's Capers.
