“-if JUNIOR CLASS HISTORY On Sept. 5, 1958, 45 of the greenest Freshmen imaginable, at least th-t is what the u per-classmen thought, entered the portals of higher 9 P learning at Howard High for better or worse. Mr. Holmes was our 4 old Spenser that year with Mr. Yoder as assistant. During that year Iar and Virgil Jay, Dwayne Arndt, and Jualita Lanning dropped out and we gained three more in number, Betty Corby, Billy warner, and incidental- ly he has, along with Freddie Rhodes, been called a mischief maker and been accused of being the cause of Mr. Langels hair turning gray. Phyllis Dutton also became one of our number that year. The class entered a float in the all School Parade on the subject of HMoline Hornets Died in Action.U We won the first prize of 310 for this. We had two picnics and two parties during the year, and took an active part in planning the all school Christmas party and also the last day of school jaunt which took us to Independence. That year 552 of our students were on thehhonor roll. On September 4, 1939, our class entered the school again, 40 in number and a little more confident of ourselves. We laughed and had a big time over the mistakes that the Freshmen made, and I doubt that there was one of our number who failed to recall the same mistakes made the year before. That year Coach Elder was our Spenser with Mr. Holmes as the assistant. In this year we lost Jack Pulley, Neoma Shipman, and Raymond Winn. We had a trail-blazing picnic and had one party in Mr. Bergsma's room. .Qur third year, the class composed of 58 members, we started to school the second day of September. We lost Fred Rhodes, who is going to the Fredonia schools. This year there is an average of two girls for every boy, the number being 25 girls and 13 boys, Mr. Holmes is our Spenser with Mr. Yoder as assistant. We are losing Betty Brinkruff at the beginning of the second semester when she will become a member of the Senior class and graduate this spring. Our class engoyed a joint party with the Seniors in the Gym in October, drank cider and ate A A th l NOne Delirious cookies. On November 22 the class.prescnted e p ay Night,H under the able guidance of Miss Thornton, which proved to be a howling success, even though the weather was not so agreeable. Our lans are concerned with giving the best Junior-Senior Banquet future p - - , yet, and trying to be better examples of dignified Seniors than some of those that we have with us at the present time.
