r f , -jsmcvz Cyan 4.1, Lifoz Detour ahead! Oh, ycu must be way ahead of the seniors if you've come to anything like that, because they've encountered no such sign on the highway to graduation. So, if you please, throw in the clutch and back up until you reach the starting point. There you see the seniors as sophomores-just learning to drive. How they keep from having more wrecks is a wonder. but they manage, under the expert steering of Mary Elizabeth Bryant to roll along with no casualties. Luther Riles, Herbert Stokes, and lack Reynolds, as vice-president, secretary, and treasurer, respectively, look like back seat drivers, but are really more useful, and Mrs. I. C. Connell and L. E. Biles are very efficient traffic directors. I As you drive on along the highway, you see the same group, but now, as juniors, they've gained more assurance and are making good time. Helen Wilson. who is now at the wheel, is taking those curves with extreme dexterity: hence there's really no need to he afraid that the car will tip. Stanley Fox, vice-president, Beverly Blaschke, secretary, and Ruth Yarbrough, treasurer, are holding down the back seat, while Mr. Biles again is directing from the side and offering sug- gestions. What? The car is stopping and everyone is getting out? Oh, that's all right-they're iust stopping for the iunior class play, Three Days of Gracie, and the iunior-senior dance. Now they have started again, and there's not even a cloud in sight as they drive into the gas station to get her filled up with new officers, for they have reached the last lap now-they're seniors! With not so much as a hitch, Bob McCrary takes over the now smoothly- running and still up-to-date car, and Miss Fannie Russ fdainty as she isl and Principal V. E. Sammons become chief mechanics, looking after the inner work- ings of the machine. Davis Brooks, vice-president, Natta Lee Black, secretary, and Helen Wilson, treasurer, take care of the bolts, nuts, and whatnot, and give a toot every once in a while as the car fairly flies along the road. Now, as the end is in sight, the seniors suddenly stop and pile out! What? And so near the achievement of their goal! But this is merely part of the trip, the purpose of this stop being nothing less than to enioy the annual senior dance, the senior class play, senior day, and the silver tea. This last event has a somewhat sober- ing effect on the young travelers, for they now realize that their days of touring are almost over. Piling back into the car, they ride on, almost reluctantly, but soon stop again, this time for the final halt. Now they receive at the graduation exercises, which have come all too soon lit's these fast, new carsl, diplomas as drivers' licenses, must haves for future individual use. And finally after a last celebration-a banquet which witnesses both cheers and tears-they drive off on a long, unchartered trip amid banners and music.
