CLASS HISTORY In this world of rockets satellites and talk of space travel men once asked What lies beyond the Great Sea of Darkness? Unlike men of yesterday the people of today realrze that there will always be new worlds to conquer In September of 1955 the Class of 59 reallzed thls and started to explore and conquer a new world with the hope that they would emerge a step closer to adulthood We chose Hot Sprtngs County High School as this new world Shaky kneed and with a purpose m mind we landed on the lawn of THS only to be surrounded by mon strous beings called seniors The frosh girls clad in boys shuts and levls on backwards no make up and straight haired and the boys dressed up as girls with gobs of make up and baby bonnets were accepted as part of the school We all bowed down to the seniors and obeyed their wishes so they wouldn t mterfere with our mission of eventually comquering Tl-IS We organized our forces and chose our leaders Presrdent Steve Jepson Vice President Darrell Vannelli Secretary Ellen Dvarishkrs Treasurer Lmda Durham Student Councrl representative Steve Jepson We took in trust one earthling Mr Haines as our sponsor The year passed qurcldy and we were no longer undercats September 1956 We were now sophcatsl Some of our former leaders were over come by the low atmosphere and we now had Presrdent Steve Jepson V1ce President Darrell Vannelli Secretary Don Anderson Treasurer Lmda Durham Roberta Hruska and Steve Jepson Student Councxl representatives and Mrs Gnffln and Uncle John Melton as sponsors L1ke a rocket fthe Cape Canaveral krndj we blasted off and our sophomore year soon ended Upperclassmen at last we chose Presrdent Lmda Durham Vtce Prestdent Steve Jepson Secretary Miriam Kowlok Treasurer Phyllxs Spiller and Student Counctl repre sentatives Lmda Durham Roberta I-lruska and Darrell Vannelli to lead us Curxoslty was gettrng the best of us so we launched a full scale explorauon Wrth our sponsors Professors Carlson Schrader and Vmer we sponsored an all school dance Miss Su kovskl helped us on our next adventure our class play Papa ls All Preparations for Project Jumor Senlor PROM and BANQUET were soon underway and on April 18 1958 we paxd a last tribute to the Class of 58 by takrng them Around the World rn 80 Days In the midst of our Jumor fun we strategically planned the last steps of our mission at THS by scattenng our people H1 the dlfferent organizations and activrties so we could garn more power Proud to be the flrst sen1ors tn the new school we spread like rvy and made many friends One of those most dear to us was our sponsor Cookre who worked wlth Presrdent Steve Jepson Vxce President Darrell Vannellr, Secretary Sue Schwartz and Treasurer Phyllrs Sptller Student Counctl representatrves for th1s mrsston fnlftllrng year were Lmda Durham Steve Jepson and Phtl Crouch Wxth a purpose in mrnd we armed ourselves wrth ray guns and captured creatures called freshmen We rnmated them and began trarmng them to be future THS leaders Besides our play Ladies rn Retirement we made the Queen s l-lomecommg Float Frnally one nlght we were all called to gether for a last ume and glven dxplomas enabling us to further ourselves beyond THS Sad but anucrpatmg the future we completed our mrsslon and were closer to adulthood Our hlgh school educanon completed we the Class of 1959 sadly say goodbye to THS but remember we still have many worlds to conquer BLAST OFE CLASS OF 5911 I By Jeanle Patterson and Thelma David s n n 1 I n f s s , . .
