The Maple leaf To the judgment of all who read this book is left what the MAPLE LEAF staff of 1936 has accomplished. We feel that the hours spent in Working on this book were put to good use. The work has been good training for some of the staff in both literary and technical fields. The success of this book is due chiefly to Jack Daley, editorg George Metzger, business manager, and to Mr. Peltz, adviser. They spent tireless hours in going over and checking every little detail of the book. In looking over the annual, you will find more new and different features than there ever have been before. XVe hope that you will enjoy them as much as we did in pre- paring them. Despite much work and worry, our year book is completed. We are very proud of it, and feel that you are too. May the MAPLE LEAF of 1936 be remembered in years to come as one of the best annuals ever put out by Hornell High School Seniors. 41 A , K n l -'4 4 fi I1 jwj. - EQ V 42,3 , LEHFKF 36 ,f f Volcano OFFICERS PETER SORENSEN - - Editor-il:-Chief EDGAR CURRAN - Assisfant Ediior KENNETH WOOD - Bzlsiness Manager SETH MCKIBBEN - - - Assiszfaut HAIKRY COYKENDALL - Assistant Miss M. The social evening plan which was introduced last fall has proven to be very successful, both financially and socially. Every Wednesday evening, students may dance, play cards or ping-pong in the gymnasium for a small admission. Once a month, there is no admission fee charged. In addition, the Council published a student handbook which was begun by last year's Council. 43 LEA!-'ZF 36 X N410 1 VX 1 ee Wx a , E W 'ye My K xWR'f 3-.9 '?'V, e, SW-Yov xfQ4 e3,yi'1':,s'lQoC 457 U, 'T , Q xc!! , Three Mummers Dramatic Osodiety fl 6 'ofa OFFICERS ANDREW DIETERMAN - - - Presirlemf EVELYN DUNHAM - Vice President LOUISE HOLLANDS - Secretary KERMIT WHITEMAN ---- - Trenszzrcr HELEN MINCKLER, Aflviser The Three Mummers, Club is at present the only dramatic organization in Hornell High School. It was presented under the direction of Mr. Clicquennoi on April 29 and 30. The play stands out as a highlight in the dramatic events of the year. Its reception by the audience, the profit which it yielded, and the enjoyment which it fur- nished all who were connected with it, marked it as an outstanding success. Consequently, the activities were crowded into the spring months. During early March, the boys' teams held non-decision debates with Canisteo and Dansville. The latter part of March, they debated in dual meets with Syracuse schools, defeating Syracuse Central High and tieing honors with Syracuse Vocational High. In early April, they journeyed to Poughkeepsie Where they succeeded in administering to Poughkeepsie's negative team its only defeat of this season. They likewise debated Albany, Rome and Syracuse Vocational at Pough- keepsie. Later in April and May, debates were scheduled for the boys' teams with Niagara Falls, Jamestown and Kenmore. The boys' affirmative team, captained by Andrew Dieterman, included William Ellis, Frank Brust, Wayne Brownell and Clarence Clemens.
