The energetic group devoted many hours to raising money for the A.F.S. program through candy, doughnut, and hot dog sales. By doing this, they provided Karen Linnenkohl, Hoquiam's A.F.S. represen- tative in Switzerland, with a holiday phone call to her family. During the Christmas season SHOUT assisted the Sunshine Kids program by collecting toys and sponsoring a dance. The active or- ganization also launched the Save Our School campaign which provided the future students of Hoquiam High with a new school. In February, SHOUT sent Valentines to boys in Viet Nam, and in the spring they projected their annual Dollars for Scholars drive. Throughout the year SHOUT mem- bers organized other beneficial projects such as a campus cleanup campaign which enabled them to fulfill the SHOUT motto of Projects for Progress, and Fun in the Processfl 4 4 Nancy Dowling and Nancy Bowers, co-cnalrmen of A.F.S., outline some of the activities for International Weekend. 30

Under the leadership of Mr. Hogan, the team members Barb Hannick, Anne Bushey, Hollee Mickelson, Gregg Newstrand, Tom Ekstrand, and Andy Holt attended many district and col- lege meets. The team, true to Hoquiam tradition, received many honors. They placed fourth in district meets, participated in the district league meet, and received recognition by being the only junior team to receive an invitation to the tourna- ment in Pullman. In March, Barb Hannick and Hollee Mickelson further distinguished the team by placing fourth out of sixteen in competition in Olympia. s k FRONT ROW: Anne Bushey, Hollee Mickelson, Barb Hannick.
