While Publicity lVlanager Bill Quigg enlightened the students concerning school events, Yell King Dale Nordell led the students through a year ol' pep and enthusiasm. i 'lihe Student Council strove to promote a closer relation- ship between the public and students by organizing various activities. With the community's help, the council placed trash disposal cans in areas for student use. The community witnessed the true spirit ol' the student body through other council functions which included a joint Hoquiam-Aberdeen Board of Control meeting, the hanging of a pep banner in downtown Hoquiam, the presenting of a plaque plus a lettermen's jacket to Olympic Stadium care- taker Tommy Marlow, and money-raising drives for footer buses. 23 f'

GIRLS AND The Girls' League, headed by Mary jo Frodel, strove to be an outstanding organization of Hoquiam High. Before the open- ing of school in September, several girls cleaned and painted the concession stand at the Olympic Stadium where the League later made money to finance the year's activities. The girls fashioned candy Christmas wreaths for the hospitals and filled a Christmas basket with food and toys for a needy family. They also spon- sored a foster child in Viet Nam, sending her money, clothes, and food. The League sponsored Happiness Week in October based on Peanuts characters to promote happiness throughout the school. lrlach month they presented the Girl of the Month award to an outstanding senior girl. A Christmas program, dances after games, and the second annual style show on Valentine's Day highlighted the girls' calendar. The May Dance following the lWother's Day Tea in the gym constituted the climax of a suc- cessful year.
