Final tabulation showed a record of
league. The overall total was six wins, two
scoring title, Steve Sewall was thc winner
six, and Pete Bunting with five. Bill Bakke
five wins and one loss compiled in topping the
losses and a tie. In a close race for the individual
with seven goals, followed by Rich Sumner with
allowed an average of only one goal per game.
Mr. Paul is blessed with eleven returning lettermen plus numerous I. V. veterans. In
its first year as a separate unit the junior Varsity under Coach Gregory and captain Pete
Spitzner won two games and lost three. Fullback Charlie Adams will lead the '58 team in
its defense of the league title.

By compiling the best season's slate in recent years, trying the school record for most
goals in one season at 29, and most of all by winning the Western New England Preparatory
School Soccer Association league, the 1957 booters will go down in Hopkins athletic history.
Against Pomfret School in an away game, the booters proved their capability by topping
the league rivals 4-1. -Avon, another league rival, fell before the powerful soccer machine
in a 9-0 debacle as goalie Bill Bakke chalked up the first of his four shutouts. Sub Pete
Bunting scored three times.
In the third league game of the season Choate played nearly perfect soccer and defeated
Hopkins 3-1. Westminster, again a league team, fell before the Hilltopper's powerful array 6-0
with "Squeekie,' Sumner denting the nets three times.
Milford Prep provided the league opposition as Hopkins won 3-0. Canterbury was the
next victim of the powerful team. The final result, a close one,' 1-0. League team Kingswood
bowed 2-1 in overtime as Pete Bunting provided the clincher. In the final games Taft got
the breaks and won 2-1 on a soggy field at Watertovsm, and Gunnery tiedthe soccermen 2-2.

The 1957 football season, though not what it might have been, showed a decided
improvement over those of the past few years. Sparked by co-captains, Bob Mignone in the
