Eugene Strausser. SENIOR CLASS HI TORY And so time moves on. The sands of time slowly, consistently roll on. The hands of the clock persistently, unfalteringly move minutes into hours, months, and years. The class of '56 is but a part of No-Ca-Hi history - history full of the memories of joy and sorrow we can never relive, only partially recapture with the friends who lived each mo- ment with us. As we pause upon this threshold and the mist rolls back, we see that during this so oft trying period of learning our proverbial Three R's , we were also living through a similiar period of Three R's. The first period of these Three R's came when, as freshmen and sophomores, we went through a period of un-Rationality. Too overcome with the joy of at last being in high school, there were many times when we proved how fitting was the term green freshmen which the upperclassmen so constantly applied to us. As for the educational cur- riculum, our intentions were good, but the most interesting things seemed to be those not in- cluded in the curriculum, and - somehow, in the rush - our books took a back seat to the other more important - more interesting things. The highlight of our freshman year - as with every freshman class - was the traditional Freshman-Sophomore party. Without warning, we suddenly found ourselves in the second of the Three R periods - Romanticism. Perhaps it was toward the end of our sophomore year - at the time when we caught ourselves listening eagerly to each word the enviable upperclassmen had to say about their coming Prom - or when it suddenly seemed that the majority of sophomores were going steady - that this second R hit us fully. Suddenly WE are upperclassmeng boys from our class are the athletes we cheer from the standsg we are in the thick of the Mikado-the junior class play - scholarship tests - the junior-Senior Prom. Yes, the period of Romanticism hits its peak at Prom time and slowly fades away when, as seniors, we see nothing is really different . We don't feel any older - look any older - act any older. Reality - the third R - has dawned. It is now, as a senior, we realize we have very little over the underclassmen, they, in fact, have one distinct advantage over us - time! Time for us has suddenly run out it seems. It is the end of zz world - not the world. The world of high school ends with a climatic graduation and noble plans for the future, but the world of tomorrow moves undauntedly on. We're not leaving those joys - still so vividly etched in our memory - we're tak- ing them with us through life as happy memories. 20 PRESIDENT Lance Swat VICE-PRESIDENT Phil Kan SECRETARY Marilyn Hagenloch TREASURER s .
