DEDICATION At the close of the 1953-54 school year, Mr. Raymond E. Trachsel will be retiring from a sixteen-year position as the Superintendent of North Canton Public Schools. Since the day in September, 1938, when Superintendent Trachsel came to North Canton, he has ably served the school and community. The start of this man's extensive teaching career, when he was only eighteen years of age, began in a one-room rural school of eight grades in Tuscarawas County. Three years later, while serving as principal of Midvale Schools, he initiated the first high school at Midvale. From here Mr. Trachsel moved on to Minerva High School, where he not only taught but also coached the football, basketball, and baseball teams. Having spent six years with Minerva High School, Mr. Trachsel returned to Kent State University for one full school year to complete his academic work for a B.A. degree. The first three years of work toward his B.A. degree were earned entirely by attending sessions of summer school, and by teaching during the winter. His Master's degree was later secured at Ohio State University. On completion of his studies at Kent, Mr. Trachsel became a critic teacher in the Kent State Training School for Teachers. Prior to coming to North Canton, he served the Canal Fulton Schools as superintendent for eleven years. With emphasis on citizenship, scholarship, and character building, he con- tributed sincere professional guidance toward the growth of North Canton grad- uates. Through his tireless devotion to these ends, he instills in his teaching staff a spirit of cooperation and inspiration. Mr. Trachsel is an ardent builder and promoter of the exempted village schools of Ohio, and he has consistently encouraged legislation in their behalf. In the future, Mr. Trachsel plans to continue his interest and participation in North Canton's school system and civic organizations. In dedicating this 1954 VIKING to Raymond E. Trachsel, we salute the friend of all students and a truly great figure in our community. Page 13

We can be proud of this fine group of people who give their time to keep our school on top. Mr. Braucher is president of the Board of Education. Page 14
