EDITORIAL TAF F ROW 1: ROW 2: ABSENT: Joan Scanlon, Joanne Swanson, Bonnie Speicher, Venita Riggs. Donald Palmer, Sara Ankrom, Nancee Gard- ner, Jeanette Willis, Carol Kitzmiller, Roy Newell. Martha Holl and Barbara Gingerich. BUSINESS STAFF ROW 1: ROW 2: ROW 3: Valette Maruna, Judy Buchtel, June Har- pold. Joyce Haines, Beverly Salby, Jane Hushour Linda Swann, Elinor Acheson, Sue Bowers. Fred Culler, Charles Wahl, Russell Metzger V I K I N G S T A F F The story of this year's Viking is typical of the clamor and confusion resulting from the attempts to put together an account of the year's activities. The staff was picked in October and in that moment the Viking', was born. In looking over the year we see the hectic days on which pictures were taken, the trips to the engraver, and many unforeseen circumstances which caused us to add a page here or cancel one there. We also see the frenzied rush of the staff to meet its deadline. Little by little, a definite shape evolved from the mass of pictures and papers. Soon, we see the bottom of a seemingly endless stack of papers miraculously become a completed yearbook. Also we must remember the fact that this yearbook could not have been published without the necessary help of the business staff. The financial end of the Viking rests completely on their shoulders. This year's staff did a wonderful job, for which they deserve much praise and many thanks! To the No-Ca-Hi student, a yearbook may be a tangible recollection of school life. To a student from another school, it may provide the basis for comparison and rivalry between yearbooks. To its staff members, the 1954 Viking represents many hours of hard work and fun which went into its publication. The valuable experience gained by the staff will linger on for them long after the '54 Viking has been forgotten. Page 8

FOREWORD The purpose of this year's edition of the Viking has been to portray the high school year with originality and accuracy. This has been attempted by the use of many original photographs. By using photography as our theme, we hope that this will give you a look at our school as a whole, and take you through the well-treaded halls of beloved No-Ca-Hi. The book is divided into five sections with faculty and administration coming first: activi- ties, sports, classes, and members of the grad- uating class following. An index of the 1954 class can be found at the end of the book. It is hoped that this more original treat- ment will prove not only interesting and enter- taining, but will provide a lasting record of No-Ca-Hi and the Class of '54. In presenting this book to you, we hope that we have immortalized, in some small way, the happenings and tender thoughts of four years spent and enjoyed at our dear old Alma Materf' JOAN SCANLON, Editor.
