Martha Ann Bain SENIOR CLASS HISTORY The Forty-Niners A Comedy Drama in Four Acts The cast of this production is made up of sixty actors, each, showing his own talent in the play of youth! The scene of action is the halls of No Ca Hi, with much off-stage work adding to the success. Scene 1 A. D. 1945-1946 Withstanding the rigors of being frosh, amazingly vvell, we experience our first elective subjects, Freshman-Sophomore-Party and a voice in the Student Council with the worldly wise approach. Scene II A. D. 1946-1947 By now we are well settled in the routine of high school, W after surviving the perils of slightly greenish freshmen. We 4 begin to notice some outstanding leaders in extra-curricular I -A , ffm activities. f ag, 4 f ff j Scene III A. D. 1947-1948 Q , 1 ' Realizing that we have but one year more till We are c i seniors, each junior tries his best to make the most of his third I year. Our up-and-coming grid and cage stars do much to help 'i win the Vikings distinction in sports. Musical talent flows freely, ' I and as scholars, We rate with the best. L tha, Scene IV A. D. 1948-1949 The Forty-Niners at last live up to their name. Every Senior is a bonafide repre- sentative of the activities that high school offers. As for the statistics: Of the sixty Seniors, thirty-five started to school in North Canton Grade Schools, nine began school days at the Parochial School, the year - 1937. Seventy-iive percent of the boys have participated in some extra-curricular sport. Fifty-five percent of the sixty have subjected themselves to Scholarship Tests at one time or another, and - Sixty percent of the class have been members of some musical organization at least one of the four years. We have members in Debate, National Honor Society and other inter-scholastic clubs, too. As the curtain comes down on the play, We might say, for the1 Forty-Ninersf' We don't have much history, but be it assured, We are bound to ma ce some. Boarding the good plane Freshman we took off on the first of the four laps of the journey to Graduation. We made frequent landings for social activities and events, such as Saturday Niters and Freshman- Sophomore Parties. Also we stopped for sporting events, debates, band, or orchestra and glee clubs, in which many of our members excelled. In spite of this we reached the end of our journey with a good record in schol- arship as well as in the aforementioned activities. After a three month layover in Vacation Lands we boarded the plane Sophomore with Mrs. Young and Mr. Beuck as navigators. The excellent trip of the Freshman was repeated with many additions in sports, scholarship and social activities. Except for encountering a few storms called Geometry, Biology and Latin, we have flown a smooth course. Having completed half the distance of our journey we look eagerly forward to next year when we shall board the plane 'Junior and continue toward our goal. W. A ,PS .,,, qwi- K 1 J 42. sg I UPERETTA It is explained that Frederic, when a child, was appr'enticed through a mistake to the Pirates of Penzanze by his nursemaid, Ruth. As the operetta opens, Frederic has just reached his twenty-first birthday. Having completed his apprenticeship, he is determined to wipe out his friends, the pirates. He enlists the aid of Policemen and pre- pares to march against the pirates. In the mean- time Frederic falls in love with Mabel, one of Gen. Stanley's daughters. Meanwhile, the Pirate King and Ruth visit Frederic and prove to him that he was born on February 29th and is in real- ity only five years old. Frederic then feels duty- bound to return to the pirate band. However, the police defeat the piratesg the pirates prove they are all noblemen gone wrong and are released. Frederic is then free to marry Mabel, and all ex- pirates pair off with the rest of the Gene1'al's daughters. Selected members from the high school or- chestra assisted the glee clubs in presenting this well-known operetta. THE CAST Leading parts in the production were carried out as follows: Richard ..
