In this very small measure We wish to repay in part our debt to him, for the six long years he has labored unceasingly, given unseliishly of his time that the ambitions of a new class might be realized. Dear Seniors: Here we are at the end of our Senior year and what a grand time we have had! Do you remember how expectantly we looked forward to our four years in high school? There were ninety-two in our Freshman class. Four boys Went out for basketball, and five for football. Our first year in high school was climaxed by the Freshman-Sophomore party where we were all very thoroughly initiated. And then the Sophomore year--we did feel wise, didn't we?--at the Freshman-Sophomore party, perhaps it was because, at last, we were on the giving instead of the receiving end. The main event in the spring was the annual operetta in which our class was well represented. By the time we were Juniors our class enrollment had dwindled to eighty-four. The Junior play, The Saturday Evening Ghost, was pre- sented by the class after many trying hours of rehearsal. It was a grand play and We were proud of the Cast. This was the year that No-Ca-I-Ii won the Ohio State Championship in basketball. There were four boys in our class that went to Columbus, including one who gained the title of All-State Star. The class members sold everything from candy to pins and pencils to raise money for the Junior-Senior Banquet. It was held at Congress Lake Country Club and was the high light of the school year. Seniors at last! -and the largest class to graduate from North Canton High. A good many loyal Senior players helped to make our basketball and football teams a success. Following the lead of last year's graduating class, we presented a senior play, Moonshine and Honey- suckle. It afforded us a great deal of pleasure, and everyone who helped with this production should be congratulated. We all had a grand time at the Junior-Senior Banquet, May 23. Thank you, Juniors. To our faithful advisor, Mr. Swope, we extend our heart-felt thanks for all his help and kindness shown and we wish him many more champion athletic achievements in years to come. In our minds will always linger the memory of our friend and class- mate, Clark Holben, who was so suddenly taken from our midst. ' And so we bid our Senior year good-bye. Farewell, old friends, you've been wonderful. Sincerely, Betty june Johnston. In its constructive program, the Student Council had charge of the Monitor system, enforced proper pedestrian crossings, and carried on an anti-gum chewing campaign. Its social activities were the Thanksgiving dance, the student assembly, and a spring dance. Next year with the cooperation of the teachers and the student body we hope to have an even better year. K, JFK BAND The North Canton High School Band is really stepping right along. During basketball season they were kept busy making up and learning stunts to use at the half of all the home varsity games. They were quite well received and very much enjoyed. Most of the band members attended the Ohio State Band Concert in Canton, February 21, and also the Stark County Music Festival in May. As a result of their excellent work this year and last year, they received an invitation from the World's Fair Administration to go there in a body this summer to show their musical ability. , MIXED CHORUS Ager, Helen Allen, Mary Arter, June Bierie, Richard Bishop, Lawrence Blatti, Wanda Bowman, Jeanne Bowman, Marilyn Bricker, Dorene Bricker, Jeanne Burkholtz, Frank Burkholtz, Marie Chenot, Pauline Conrad, Spencer Craven, Barbara Daily, Norma Davidson, Donna Deex, Ruth DeMuesy, Tom Denton, Doris Dillin, Nancy Earley, Jane Earley, Wilma Fawver, Bertha Festerly, Marjorie Frye, Ruth George, Inez Gill, Margaret Glass, Jane Golloway, Glenn Graham, Robert Graham, William Grant, Leah Gray, Thomas Greenho, Bruce Grove, Allene Hanel, Janice Harding, Edwin Harpold, Joe Howes, Charles Hoy, Janet Hurlburt, Thomas Jester, James Kidder, Charles Kolp, Dorothy Lesh, Virginia Livingston, Margaret McCaman, Robert McCue, Robert Masline, Jean Mathie, William Meister, Paul Metzger, Evelyn Meyers, Mary Miller, Glenn Miller, William Muse, Marillyn Myers, Phyllis Myers, Thomas Peterson, Carl Pollock, Sterling Post, Robert Renner, Velma Roberts, Ladine Rohrer, Gifford Rohrer, Max Rohrer, Vivian Rubright, Eleanor Saunders, Louis Schaeffer, Patty Schafer, Ellen Schario, Lester Schlemmer, Raymond Schlemmer, Zane Schug, Karl Schug, Kenneth Shank, Ernest C. They sang their way into an excellent rating at the Glee Club Contest at Kent, which entitled them to enter the Glee Club Contest at Columbus. 0f course, they made the trip and sang their way into a superior rating and a State Championship in the State Glee Club Contest. With the much needed support of many inter- ested persons, they were able to make the trip to Anderson, Indiana for the National Glee Club Contest. Here they again made a rating of excellent, putting them second place in the National Contest of Glee Clubs. This year they again went to Kent and came through with a very nice rating and kept on working with the goal of both Columbus and Bay City, Michigan in view. Besides this contest the girls sang at several concerts and at the Christmas program, Late in the spring the girls performed at the annual musicale, and late in April, broadcasted over Station WHBC. The Annual Stark County Music Festival wound up another quite successful year under the leadership of Mr. Hammond. BOYS' GLEE CLUB This year the boys Worked hard to attain the record set last year by the girls and they made a grand attempt. They again entered the District Music Contest at Kent and came through with quite a satis- factory rating. Considering the fact that this is their second year in the contest, the record is very commendable. In December, the boys sang at the annual Christmas program and at the P.-T. A. where they were well received. At the annual Musi- calc, the boys performed remarkably well and made a broadcast for the first time at the invitation of Station WHBC. They also partici- pated at the Stark County Music Festival in May. is Allen, Mary Berger, Jean Blatti, Wanda Braucher, Margaret Climes, Inez Cordier, Berdella Curry, Jean Daily, Geraldine Dillin, Nancy Festerly, Marjorie George, Inez Glass, jane President - Vice President Secretary - Treasurer Advisors OFFICERS Gray, Marilyn Hanel, Janice Hickey, Alice Johnston, Betty Kolp, Dorothy Kolp, Helen Lowry, Jean Mays, Lynnette Moore, jean Nodle, Marian Rubright, Eleanor Saunders, Dorothy Virginia Warstler Maxine Sponseller - Jean Lowry Ruth Schreiner n SMiss Gatrell lMiss Seederly Schafer, Ellen Schreiner, Ruth Schwallie, Anna Snyder, Pauline Sponseller, Maxine Warburton, Mary Warstler, Virginia Weidleman, Annamae Wenger, Blanche Willaman, Phyllis Wise, Harriet Wolf, Ann V Ashbaugh, William Baxter, John Beckert, john Bishop, Lawrence DeMuesy, Dick Gill, Bernard Ginther, Robert Harding, Edwin Hess, Herbert Hoare, Charles Presidenf - Vice President Srrrefasry - Trcfaszzwr Advisors Holl, Dale Jester, James King, Charles Kintz, Richard Leibtag, Wesley McCue, Robert McDowell, Horace Pollock, Sterling Rohrer, Gifford Rohrer, Max 5 OFFICERS - - - Richard Kintz - - Max Rohrer - - James Jester Richard Waltenbaugh - 'lMr. Nagel Uack Coughlin Schick, Tom Shorb, William Stahler, Logan Vogt, Ralph Waltenbaugh, Richard Warburton, james Weinhart, Jack Willaman, Jack Wise, Frank 1 xmmsnwwm H AQM 'WW' , Mwmwsvn-i l.,., ,..XmHw,s2umni se1MW, -W emit xvamwmsvwltzzrfgtss Bierie, Betty Bowman, Marilyn Bricker, Dorene Chenot, Pauline Curry, Barbara Daily, Norma Davidson, Donna Day, Doris Deetz, Nancy Denton, Doris Frye, Ruth George, Lois Gill, Margaret Gopp, Frona Groom, Phyllis Haney, Alberta OFFICERS President - Vice President Secretary - Treasurer - Advisors Holben, Ellen Holt, Eleanor Horning, Rita Hoy, Janet Keller, Ladyne King, Helen Lesh, Virginia Livingston, Margaret McElroy, Dorothy Masline, Jean Mayer, Blanche Metzger, Ella Mae Metzger, Evelyn Miller, Mary Mohler, Birdine Mooring, Betty Jeanne Warstler Dorothy Spitler Jean Masline Margaret Gill - Miss Seederly Miss Evans Myers, Phyllis Oberlin, Martha Rohrer, Vivian Roush, Frances Schaeffer, Patty Schrecknegost, Betty Schreiner, Miriam Sheehan, Rose Marie Smith, Barbara Smith, Rita Spitler, Dorothy Trachsel, Doris VanVranken, Alice Warstler, Jeanne Weaver, Marjorie Wood, Patty V Berger, Robert Bierie, Richard Burkholtz, Frank Cossnboom, William Gill, John Golloway, Glenn Gray, Thomas Harpold, Joe Hickey, Marian Holmes, Lee President Vice President - Secrefary 'I-'T!'!lS1l1't'f Arfuisorx Howes, Charles Jaberg, Arnet Kidder, Charles Kintz, joe Mathie, Bill Miller, William Ober, Ralph Post, Richard Ross, Donald Schick, George OFFICERS Glenn Golloway - Arnet Jaberg - Robert Stull Richard Stover SML Russell Uack Coughlin Smiley, Robert Smith, Thomas Stover, Richard Stull, Robert Swearengin, Eugene Trachsel, Dale Uhrich, Victor Wearstler, Earl Werstler, Richard Willaman, john Wolf, Handy DeMuesy, Nan Gill, Shirley Good, Doris Good, Dorothy Harman, Donna Harrison, Patty Hess, Pauline Hobert, Betty Huprich, Betty Ingold, Velma President - Vice Presideni Secretary - Treasurer - Advisor - OFFICERS Jones, Jean King, Jean LaRocco, Angela LaRocco, Annette Nodle, Marguerite Norris, Lucille North, Marilyn Price, Carol Smith, Jeanne Smith, Marilyn - Jean King - Jean Jones Marilyn Smith Nolie Winkleman Dorothy Lowry Sponseller, Ellen Storch, Marilyn Travis, Mary Uhrich, Mae Wallace, Helen Warburton, Joy Werstler, Jeanne Winkleman, Nolie Winkleman, Wanda Wise, Alice Zumbach, Maybelle V Agnes, Robert Braucher, Richard Bricker, Paul Cathon, Robert Firestone, Dick Fye, Alvie Gross, Lloyd Haverstock, Harold President Vice President Secretary - Treasurer - Advisors Kaufman, Marvin Leed, Ted Mathie, Robert May, Fred Miesmer, Phil Mohler, Richard Olson, Ken Rohrer, Leslie OFFICERS Ken Olson Torn Wolf - Tom Weaver Harold Haverstock Jack Coughlin Mr. Franz Streby, Dick Swearengin, jim VanVranken, James Warstler, Bud Weaver, Tom Wehl, Glenn Wolf, james Wolf, Tom MATH AND SCIENCE CLUB Claypool, Richard Hurlburr, Thomas Srahlcr Logan Climes, Arlan Schlemmer, Raymond Uhrlch Victor Golloway, Glenn Schug, Karl Weinhart ack Harpold, Joe Schug, Kenneth Wise Frank OFFICERS Presidmzf - - - Richard Clnypool Vive President - Frank Wise Sec.-Treus. With the return of only one of the members of last year's varsity squad, the team started the year with a slight disadvantage in its lack of experience. At the tournament at Struthers, this became evident with the Negative and Affirmative teams each winning only one out of four debates. With each contest giving them more experi- ence, they showed much improvement in the tournament at Ravenna, with the Negative winning four out of four and the Affirmative two out of four. At the Stark County Tournament, held here at the High School, the Affirmative won two contests out of five and the Negative four out of five. We are looking forward to a bigger and better debate squad next year. Charles Haverstock's oration and Alberta Haney's dramatic reading eliminated them from the contest, but nevertheless, their work deserved a good hand. These students are all to be commended for their efforts and fine accomplishments. 1st Cast DRAMATIC CLUB PLAY Jerry fAldinej Taylor, Iack's Roommate .,., Jack Norman, College Student ,,,,,...., Luke Calloway, Iack's Friend ,... Before they leave for the trip, Uncle Dudley arrives unexpectedly at the dorm and finds in his nephewls bedroom, Jerry fAldinej dressed in a filmy negligee and blonde wig. At the Brigg's summer cottage in Atlantic City where Millie has left to marry her Harold, Mary arrives with Jessie, who enters the beauty contest. The three boys came, too. The Clayton Parmers, interested in the Brigg's Beautifier Corp., arrived to buy some stock while Tom Deems, Dud's friend, came for important reasons. When Aunt Sarah learns of all this, she becomes hysterical, and decides Mary should be the maid. Ten people for three bedrooms is a problem finally solved by Geraldine sleeping with Aunt Sarah. At breakfast, Geraldine's hat and wig yanked off reveals that . . she's a he! Jessie becomes Miss America and also Mrs. Jack Norman, and Luke finds he loves Millie-her Harold wasn't there! Jerry finds sympathy and love in Mary, too. This matrimonial bureau changed into a joyous quietness. After the dignified Parmers left in a rage, they returned peacefully to settle their deal with Dudley who, by now has bought jack's.beauty clay. As the curtain fell on this gay comedy, everyone was assured that The Clay's the Thing! 2nd Cast JUNIOR CLASS PLAY CAST OF CHARACTERS Attendant ,,,, .,.. W itness Foreman of the Jury Ladies and gentlemen Ladies and gentlemen Lawyers of the jury of the press Directors-Mr. Miller, Mr. Schneider THE MISSING WITNESS The action of this melodrama is laid in a courtroom picturing the trial of Helen Montgomery for the murder of Henry Kellogg. Helen, with a smoking revolver in her hand, was discovered in Kellogg's office beside his dead body, lying unconscious on the floor. Questioned by police who had been called to the scene of the murder, she admitted the killing and willingly signed a confession to that effect. Robert Crandal, her fiancee, was quite convinced of her innocence, and being a lawyer, prevailed upon her to plead not guilty of the charge. It becomes quite evident as the trial progresses that Helen is trying to shield someone. It develops that this someone is Alice Raymond, a young society girl, who seems to have a very mysterious connection with the case. These circumstances are as baffling to Crandal as they are to the audience for Helen will tell nothing. Meanwhile, the State and the Defense are searching frantically for Alice to clear up the case, but she has disappeared. In spite of Crandal's efforts to have her tell the truth, Helen still maintains that she is the murderess. At a very dramatic moment Alice Raymond, the missing witness, makes her appearance at the trial, and from there on the play approaches a most sensational and speedy climax which really brought the house down. The duel of words between Crandal, Defense Attorney, and Barkley, the Prosecuting Attorney, makes a very brilliant theme. The play was a decided success under the very able direction of Mr. Miller and Mr. Schneider. The Junior Class wishes to express its appreciation to all those who had a part in this, their successful production. A tynical mountain cabin in the Kentucky and Tennessee mountains. MOONSHINE AND HONEYSUCKLE In the mountains of Kentucky on a certain June evening, Clem Betts and Buck Gaddis, two boyhood friends, discover with surprise that they are both in love with the same girl. Now ordinarily, under these conditions, mountaineers would shoot it out on the spot, but not so with Clem Betts, whose peaceloving nature brings him to letting Annie Bevins choose for herself. But when Annie does make her choice of Buck Gaddis, an old family feud rises between the two families and then the trouble begins. Kind-hearted Clem, hoping to settle the quarrel, sends off Annie and Buck to be married. But there he made his big mistake, in not reckoning with old Peg-leg Gaddis and his fiery-tempered niece, Cracker. Before Clem realizes it, he is in the midst of the feud with both families out to get his hide. Pink Freeze and Piney Hyatt lend humor to the situation with their love troubles. Piney, the man-hungry type, thinks Clem is just bashful in not having proposed to her, but when he still hasn't in the end-and she just can't see why-she goes ahead and marries a Jewish peddler and settles down to support him for the rest of her life. Gypsy Carter refuses to marry Pink, a widower with a young son to care for, so he decides to go farther back into the hills where he can get a wife in exchange for a cow or two. In the meantime, Cracker has changed sides and is now helping Clem to try to stay out of the feud. She succeeds by the time the feud is over. Peg-leg's friendship is won by Clem when he presents him with a new jointed wooden leg to replace the one he had accidentally splintered with buck-shot. In return for this gift, Peg-leg agrees not to feud if Clem should just happen to want to marry Cracker. Clem wants to, so takes advantage of the opportunity. In the production of this remarkable play, the cast Wishes to express their appre- ciation to their directors, Mr. Miller and Mr. Swope for their efforts and fine coaching to that cause. The club's service to the student body is threefold. First--it helps the members gain experience and confidence in speaking into the mike. Second-it may also help undecided students to determine their vocation. Third-it helps to keep the student body well informed on current events. This comparatively new club, responsible for those popular interviews, and regular news broadcasts is sure to progress and become a more essential extra curricular activity.
