We are ,wand to ,vresfnf Ddin was the highest of the Viking deities, and he is called the Father of Man be- :ause he created man from the limbs of a tree. Odin was also the wisest of all the Viking gods, and he is looked upon with re- spect because he shared his wisdom with man. This wisdom he procurred from the Nell of the Giant Mimir by pawning one of his eyes. Thus, Odin appeared as a one-eyed nan wearing a blue-gray cloak and a winged melmet. Two ravens perched on his strong shoulders, and two wolves lay at his feet as 1e sat in his high seat in the Hall of Gods, watching all that came to pass in the heavens and on the earth. lf he saw an unjust occur- 'ence, Odin rendered justice. Because of his sense of justice, men and gods alike fought valiantly to serve him. Odin's mortal war- 'iors were proud to fight for such an awe- some god, knowing that if they died in battle, they would then feast with Odin in Valhalla to honor their heroic death and to celebrate their glorious victory. lust as Odin was an inspiration to the Viking warriors of bygone days, he has been an in- spiation to the 1971-72 Yearbook Staff. Odin has been chosen as the official name of fu- ture H-F yearbooks.
