NX-AYQXQQ Having no luck in bringing out the leadership element in you? Well don't despair, FBLA is here. Future Business Leaders of America is a national organization for students who are interested in gaining new insight into leadership and business. By exposing the students' business-like atmo- spheres, they receive a head start in today's busi- ness world. We believe in developing the true leaders within everyone explains club president Scott Kokka. Not only do the members take part in competi- tion, they also schedule charity dinners forthe el- derly on holidays. So, if you want to have fun while learning and leading, FBLA is for you. Being involved in extracurricular activities is a good way to enrich your high school life. By join- ing the California Scholarship Foundation QCSFJ, students have the chance to participate in a variety of events, the annual blood drive, conval- escent home visits, Special Olympics, college campus visitation, and the end-of-the-year beach DIFFERENCE trip. Although CSF is an honor club eligible only to students with high GPA, it is still a large club. Along with the devotion and efforts of the members, CSF has touched the lives many. The National Honor Society fNHSl, one of the prestigious clubs at Homestead, is designed to promote leadership, character, service, and scholarship. The club has a recognition of being open to a select few. Eligible only to juniors and seniors, students need at least a 3.55 GPA. This year NHS again plans to sponsor the Awards Night. With a well organized club and a attitude of great enthusiasm, last year's Awards Night was extremely successful. Other NHS community activities include a Thanksgiving dinner for the el- derly and a visit to the Stanford childrens Hospi- tal. In a short time NHS, CSF, and FBLA have proven to be very valuable service clubs. Their projects and events for the people are appreciated by all. 'rw NHS, Front- A. Chowhan, S. Lev, E. Nordby, P. Reaching 0 U T Service Clubs Help Where They Can A helping hand is there for those in need of one. Community senrice plays a big part in two of Homestead's clubs, Interact and Althenians. Open to any and all Homestead students is the Interact club. Every other week this helpful bunch meets to discuss their future plans. The main goal that Interact strives to reach is to help the underpriviledged in the area. They achieve this by holding fundraisers for the homeless, ringing bells for the Salvation Army, and having pre-school parties for underpriviledged children. While helping others in need, the members of the club are able to build friendships among themselves. Applications are taken in the spring for any girl with a 3.0 or better. The chosen few must pass through an initiation which is usually held in front of the quad. During the year, the Althenians raise money by having a pie-eating contest and by selling flower grams. Their community involvement includes an adopt-an-elderly program, taking older people to musicals and plays, and Special Olympics in the spring. To celebrate their achievements, a winter formal is held for all Althenians at a member's house. Whatever the club you choose, both benefit the community in a similar way. 35 X wQ '7 lg 9 i ,x an slay 'x r .' fx V' V ls ' ,, A v. I ' I 4 VX -5 gg A '- --. . Y
