M.,,,N-an Lack of size and previous playing experience were definate handicaps to this year's Freshman Basketball team. Their season record was two wins and thirteen losses. The league record was two wins and ten losses. The team tied for tenth place in the league standing, The team had fine spirit and worked hard all year long, despite the losing record. After their first taste of victory over Wilcox with a score of 70-33, the Freshman team went on to win their next game against Sunnyvale, 42-34. But a strong Awalt team defeated Homestead in the following game. The Frosh played well during the first half of their games, but stronger defensive pressure from their opponents kept them from winning any more games. The potential of these players will be more fully realized next year when they have another year of growth and ma- turity, Experience gained in the summer leagues will also be of great help to them, Phil Castenada was named to the S C V A L. SECOND ROW: Doug Clarey, Ed Rutherford, Doug Olson, Rich Faber, jim johnson, Greg Berglund. THIRD ROW: Greg Fish, Harvey Martell, Dave Ralstin, jess Pifferini, Kip Anderson, The 1969-70 junior Varsity Basketball team was composed of an outstanding group of individuals playing very well as a team. Displaying great team balance in scoring, rebounding, and floor play, they finished the season with an overall record of 18 wins and 5 losses, and a league record of 9 wins and 3 losses which was good enough for a tie for the championship. After a fine practice slate featuring a second place finish in the Los Altos Christmas Tourna- ment, the junior Varsity got off to a poor league ju start, losing their first two games. But featuring a strong inside attack by jim johnson, Ed Ruther- ford, Doug Olson, and Dave Rathbun and a bal- anced outside attack by jess Pifferini, Doug Clar- ey, Dave Egusa, and Dave Ralstin the team re- bounded with nine straight victories before a last game loss deprived them of the outright league championship. wwf' pf,- , ' 'T b ' f .
