XR ,k..,e,,, . V 4,0 an- ' 1 --......... Q i The 1969-70 Varsity Basketball season was a good season. The varsity stayed in the average of 5000 in both practice and league games. The team was very adequate in defensing their opponents. Rarely did they have a problem moving the ball up the floor against pressure defenses. In almost all games the varsity squad maneuvered for the shots they wanted to take, developing into an excellent board team, averaging 43.6 rebounds per game. They did, however, not shoot for the good average. This lack of shooting kept them from having a very successful win-loss record. The varsity was fortunate this year to have an all league player - john Saich, who was also the Most Valuable Player trophy winner. lohn in his two varsity years has set nine school records and dominates the record board. The other half of our Mutt and jeff combination, Chris Vitale, was the Scholar Athlete trophy winner with a 3.5 average. These two plus the eight other seniors Tom Erbes, Mike Franklin, Ken Hilt, Rich Pender- graft, Ed Pitney, Rich Pitney, Fred Reynolds, and Dennis VanDalsen will be sorely missed. The varsity ended their season with a record of five wins and six losses. , Q ' ci 2 N -4 ,ws- . 3 his - 1 ,L .1 NX ,f ,aw ' fafmm-,V s A .. t. THIRD ROW: Greg Fish, Harvey Martell, Dave Ralstin, jess Pifferini, Kip Anderson, The 1969-70 junior Varsity Basketball team was composed of an outstanding group of individuals playing very well as a team. Displaying great team balance in scoring, rebounding, and floor play, they finished the season with an overall record of 18 wins and 5 losses, and a league record of 9 wins and 3 losses which was good enough for a tie for the championship. After a fine practice slate featuring a second place finish in the Los Altos Christmas Tourna- ment, the junior Varsity got off to a poor league ju start, losing their first two games. But featuring a strong inside attack by jim johnson, Ed Ruther- ford, Doug Olson, and Dave Rathbun and a bal- anced outside attack by jess Pifferini, Doug Clar- ey, Dave Egusa, and Dave Ralstin the team re- bounded with nine straight victories before a last game loss deprived them of the outright league championship. wwf' pf,- , ' 'T b ' f .
