L 1 .. 'L To Q -t-J l.l- .C an L. l-L. The success of the season can't be measured by a win-loss record. The team experienced many high and low points throughout the season. As the season progressed every member of the team improved on his blocking, tackling, agility, and running skills. The freshman football season got off to a good start with a 14-12 victory over Monte Vista. Injuries, absences, and mistakes plagued the team the next four games. Paul Giannaccaro, the first team all S.C.V.A.L. halfback, had a great game gaining 201 yards in 39 carries to defeat Wilcox 16-0. The last two games against the undefeated teams of Peterson and Cu- pertino demonstrated the team's pride and their enthusiasm. Led by all S,C.V.A.L. second team lineman john Renner and all S.C.V.A.L. second team defensive lineman Cam Grieg Homestead's freshmen were not outclassed. The team showed they had great pride in themselves and their school. The 1969 freshman football team ended their season with a 2 wins, 5 losses, and 1 tie, record. Losing only two games to first place Buchser, Coach Anderson's team took second place in the SCVAL. The water polo team's most rewarding comeback was at the Northern California Invitational. Here, the Mus- tangs took revenge on Buchser with a hard-fought 4-2 victory. With only Miramonte left to play for the North- ern California crown, Homestead entered the champi- onship game. Getting off to a slow start, the Mustangs recovered in the second quarter, as they exploded with four goals. Homestead came across again in the fourth quarter when they hurled in three more goals to end the game with a 9-5 victory over Miramonte. Homestead took the prestigious Northern California crown. Honors came to Steve King, Paul McKenzie and jeff White as they were named on the all-tournament team. Other players who had consistent performances all sea- son were Steve Bundy, Rick Gebers, lim Parker, and Jeff Taylor. F '-1.-5.1 E' l'
