History of the Junior Class The iunior class of 1953-1954 first met on the first Monday in September 1951. At that time there were only nine members. They were: Rosaline Bates, Frances Sorensen, Dean Mongar, Gary Clayton, David Nelson, Claude Griffery, John Eastman, Bob Jacobsen, and Rex Pigg. The class officers were: Rex Pigg, president, Dean Mongar, vice-president, and Rosaline Bates, secretary. The teachers that year for this class were: Mr . Weber fgeneral science one semester-world geography the otherl Mrs. Doran QEnglish, general science one semester and world geography the otherj and Mr. Slosson Qmathematicsl. The beginning of our sophomore year saw two new faces come into the scene. They were Janice Nelsen, a transfer from Winnebago, and Bob Tighe, a transfer from Heelan High. lt also saw two new teachers for our class. They were Mr. Hanson, the new coach and our world history teacher, and Miss lrle our typing teacher. Mrs. Doran was our biology and English teacher. The class officers were the some as in our freshman year. The 1953-54 school year sees us with another new pupil who transferred from Emerson. His name is LeRoy Treft. However, our small class failed to grow for John Eastman enlisted in the marines. Ouriunior year again brought some new teachers. Mr. ,Strasburg replaced Mr. Slosson as the school superintendent. Miss lrle is no longer with us and in her place is Mrs. Wagner who teaches us bookkeeping and shorthand. Our other subiects are: American literature taught by Mrs. Doran, American problems taught by Mr. Hanson, and shop for the boys also taught by Mr. Hanson. We put on a class play entitled Hillbilly Courtship which was a success for we made quite a bit of money and did not do too bad a iob of acting. We are trying to raise money for the Junior-Senior banquet. Our class officers are: David Nelson , president, Rex Pigg, vice-president, Rosaline Bates, secretary and Dean Mongar, Student Council. This brings our history of the junior class up to date. 11
