History of the Senior Class Of the sixteen seniors in the class of 1954, only two have been continuous classmates in the past twelve years. These two are Mildred Donnelly and Lewis Stockton. As these two advanced through the grades, they saw many changes, as former pupils moved away and new ones came in. During the third year they wee ioined by Phyllis Potts, and in the fourth grade Beverly Cooper and Marian Baugous were added. In the fifth the number was increased by two when Peggy Russell and Hallene Anderson entered our school. Jim Nelsen and Richard Lund added two more in the seventh grade and Sandra Nelson joined us in the eighth grade. The class received its greatest increase in the ninth year when eight Freshmen entered from our country schools. These were Joan Pedersen, Mariorie Jacobsen, Betty Georgesen, Mary O'Connor, Albert Byrood, Paul Bielenberg, Pete Jorgensen, and Dan Johnsen, Near the close of this year we lost Sandra Nelson who moved to the State of Washington. Mr. Slosson was our sponsor during this year. The outstanding event was our initiation. At the start of the sophomore year our number remained the same, as Pauline Anderson ioined us, replacing Paul Bielenberg, who had moved from our community after completing the ninth grade. Mrs. Doran was our class sponsor. During the year we put on a couple of skits and discovered that our class contained promising play material. 7

During our junior year our class number was increased when Norma Heath entered. The class sponsor was Miss lrle. Our class play, Aunt Somathy Rules the Roost , was a huge success, and a number of the class displayed real talent. We held the banquet for the seniors at the Mayfair Hotel in Sioux City. During this year we had the privilege of participating in County Government Day fwith other juniors of the county schoolsl in the Dakota County Courthouse at Dakota City. ln the spring the senior class and we were guests of Mrs. Doran at o picnic in Stone Park. We entered our senior year with a roll call of sixteen, two of our members, Beverly Cooper and Phyllis Potts, having left our ranks. Mrs. Doran is our sponsor. We elected Jim Nelsen class president, Mary O'Connor vice-president, and Hallene Anderson secretary and treasurer. The first semester was a busy season with our studies, athletics, and various schemes for raising money for our Sneak Day. ln the fall, we, as well as other Senior Classes of the county, were conducted on a soil conservation tour which was interesting and informative . We found a king and queen to rule over our Homecoming in Betty Georgesen and Dick Lund. Hallie Anderson and Jim Nelsen were their attendants. As the year went by we seniors had a carnival, our Class Play, Sneak Day, and the Junior-Senior Banquet. Now, as we say so-long to Homer High we look to the future with high hopes andideals, but we will never forget the years we spent in Homer and the good times we have had together. 8
