CLASS GETS INITIATED The Freshman initiation lasted from Octo- ber 4, 1954 until the 8th. Monday the boys had to wear scarves around their heads and roll their pant legs up, it was very cool! The girls wore braids and old work shoes, we sounded like horses running around the halls. Both the boys and girls had to bow to the sophomores and say, Praise the sophomores. Tuesday the boys wore aprons and carried a spoon around, girls wore dresses and hats to look like old maids. Wednesday the boys wore baby blankets, carried women's purses, and rolled up their pant legs. The girls wore suspenders, old twine, or string to hold up their skirts. Friday, the last day of initiation, the girls wore shirts and tiesg some of those ties about knocked your eyes out! The boys wore jewelryg all ears were sore from those earrings. On Friday night came the big event, the initiation party. To start things off we arrived and got a few squirts of water and a few swats with magazinesg also took off our shoes and socks. The first game was very thrillingg we had to roll chalk across the floor with our noses. Only a few sore noses and a face full of Rapid- Shave resulted. Some of us were awfully hungry, so they blindfolded us and gave us each a banana with some tasty garlic powder on it. We all ate them down heartily and went on. Winners got a faceful of Rapid-Shave. Next was the marshmellow-on-the-string, finally the winner enjoyed Rapid-Shave for a prize. By that time our feet were a little dirty, so everyone was blindfolded and the girls washed the boys' feet and the boys washed the girls' feet. After that we were blindfolded and had to follow a string. We went up and down steps, un- der seats, under chairs, under tables, under the stage, and over water puddles. We ended up at the cafeteria for refreshments. After refresh- ments a few of us dipped for apples in water and then for candy in a can of flour. After this everyone was assigned to aclean- ing detail. When the cleaning was done, every- one went to the gym to find their shoes and socks and untie the knots in our shoe strings. This ended our initiation. A few bruises were the only injuries resulting from the party. Everyone survived! l tr.. 'sr as
