3 if . 4 1 4, -. Ai Emir! an V The only thing necessary for the success of evil is that good men do nothing. -Yves de Montcheuil, S..l. The main purpose of any school is the training of the intellect. For a Catholic school, however, this is not sufficient. Our graduates must be trained to be apostles - men convinced not only of the intellectual disciplines, but also conquered by the reality of their religion. They are men sent - sent into every imaginable field of endeavor, sent not only to accomplish ordinary deeds, sent not only to bear witness to their education, but mainly to bear witness to Christ who lives in their s who inspires their motives and enriches their every action. These men, filled with true manly piety, are an inspiration in a strife-torn world - men to whom our students anxiously look for example, in whose footsteps they follow, seeking new horizons, their feet indifferent to the rocks and the pounding waves that beat upon them, their eyes fixed on the stars. ouls i lim ll ll In ll IH Hi fl ' QI 'QE EK 1 3 Q-1-. Candidates are students who have spent at least tvvo semesters in Holy Trinity High School and are members of the junior or senior class. Candidates eligible to election to the chapter must have a scholastic average of B or 8306 or its equiv- alent. Their eligibility is then considered on their Service, Leadership, and Character. The election of members to the Society is made by a chapter council, consisting of members of the faculty who are appointed by the principal. On January 28, faculty, parents, and students convoked to witness the charter induction of those students pictured here, who were elected to the National Honor Society. Page 98 After completing a two week double prac- tice schedule, the Tigers encountered the Sham- rocks of St. Patrick at Hanson Park on September 7. ln this first game of the season, our highly underrated eleven displayed a fighting spirit which was to prevail for the remainder of the season. Early in the second period a St. Pat half- back scored, and the Shamrocks went ahead 6-O. ln the second half, the Shamrocks' quarterback passed to his right end for the second touchdown. The two point conversion made the score i4-O. Early in the fourth quarter, right half Bob Bulinski took a pitchout from quarterback Larry Wisniewski and found left half Dennis Suderski in the end zone with open arms. The game ended T4-6 in favor of St. Patrick. On the night of September 12, at Shew- bridge Field, the Tigers swept over the Brother Rice Crusaders 26-O. Larry Wisniewski scored twice in the contest on l8 and 54 yard runs, and passed to end Dennis Gneda for a two point con- version. Dennis Suderski and Ralph Rosignolo also scored on 70 and 2 yard runs respectively. Though out-weighed, the fighting drive and the down field blocking of the Tiger team was the deciding factor in the outcome of the game. Spirits high because of the previous victory, the Tigers were set to extend their victory train to two games. On September 2l the Tigers' terri- tory was invaded by St. Elizabeth. Ralph Rosig- nolo tallied first for the Trinity eleven with a two yard plunge, and the score was 6-O. Bob Bulinski. threw a pass from the lronmen's l2 to Pat Moritz for another Tiger score. In the second half the Tigers scored on a T5 yard jaunt up the middle by Dennis Suderski, which made the final score 19-O. 4 4 8 -4 Autumn Afternoons . . . The Demons' first score came in the closing seconds of the first half on a 33 yard pass from the DePaul quarterback to his halfback, who caught the ball on the Tiger 45 and raced the remaining distance to the end zone. After this both teams tightened their defenses, and the only other scores came late in the game, when a DePaul halfback caught a pass in the right flat for a touchdown. The same play worked for the two-point conversion making the score 16-O. ln the final seconds a long pass from the DePaul quarterback fell incomplete, but interference was ruled, and DePaul got the ball on the Tiger 4. Moments of Victory ond Defeat t Wm .U .r,.-t I 1 A stout Tiger defensive stops a Gordon drive up the middle for no gain. Spurred on by Dczuntless Spirit The afternoon of October 4 at Lane Tech was a day which Trinity fans should remember for some time. It was on this day that the Trinity team tied St. George. The Dragons had never lost or even been tied in the thirteen-year history of the Trinity-St. George games. A pass from Georges quarterback to the end produced the first score for the Dragons. A two point conversion made the score 8-O. Following the kickoff, the Tigers moved the ball to the Dragons' 46 yard line, and six plays later Ralph Rosignolo plunged from the T, then Wisniewski ran over the two points tying the score. In the fourth quarter the St. George halfback ran the ball over from two yards out and later passed for the two-point conversion that gave the Dragons a 16-8 lead. Fighting to the end, the Tigers were not to be outdone. Late in the last period Larry Wisniewski passed to Bob Kawalek, who got to the 2 yard line on a tackle eligible play. Wisniewski scored on the next play. Ralph Rosignolo tied the game by going over for the two points. The final score showed a T6-lo tie. For his outstanding performance in this game, Larry Wisniewski was awarded the Herald American Prep Back ofthe Week award. On the following week the annual rivalry between Trinity and Gordon again took place. The Tigers were at the short end of the game, 22-O. The Gordon quarterback hit his end on a pass for the first score. The Tigers contained the Rams for the rest of the second and third periods but faltered in the last period when a pass in- terception gave the Rams another score. The Rams scored once again on a l yard plunge and the game ended 22-O. Below: Part of the Tiger bench lends moral sup- port while other watch with anxiety. From left to right are Tomaszewski, Kozien, Rusakiewicz, Passeri, Podhainy, Wierzba, Soia, Cronin, Zach- man, Streba, and Rosignolo. On October T9 the Red Horde of Weber played host to the Tigers. The Tigers opened the scoring when co-captain Larry Wis- niewski plunged from the 6 inch line, and the Tigers owned a 6-O lead. Late in the second period another quarterback sneak by Wis- niewski and the extra point kick by Sowizrol gave Trinity a T3-O lead at halftime. Weber finally scored on a pass play and the try for the two points was good making the score T3-8. Another touch- down was added inthe final period, but the PAT failed, and Weber took the lead T4-13. After the Red Horde kicked oFf to the Tigers, a Tiger back let the ball roll into the end zone and a Weber man fell on it for Weber's third and final touchdown. Final score: 22-l3. In the last game of the season, the Loyola Ramblers shut out the Holy Trinity Tigers 26-0. The Ramblers scored twice in the second quarter, once on a 9 yard run and again on a T4 yard pass. In the third period two more touchdowns were pushed across by the Ramblers and the game ended as did the season. Ralph Rosignolo, despite the etiorts of a DePaul lineman, moves in for the tackle, as Dziewulski, Sowizrol, and Grygiel move up to help him. The T8 points of Dennis Suderski could not prevent a 62-48 De Paul victory. The Seniors, held together by the ability of Bob Passeri, fell to the skillful Demon tive, 56-40. Weber After a tedious week's practice the Tigers were ready to take up the rivalry with the Weber Red Horde. Sparked by an enthusiastic home crowd, Larry Mallek, Marty Boron, and Dennis Suderski contributed 46 of the Juniors' 60 points. The Tiger defense was well poised and held their opponents to a losing 55 points. Hoping also to fulfill the great expectations desired of them, the Seniors followed suit and toppled the Weber heavies 69-64. Gordon The Junior teams of both schools fought a pitched battle down to the last seconds of the game. With one minute left to play in a tied ball game, a Gordon substitute found his mark, bringing the Tigers to a heart-breaking 51-49 defeat, ln another close ball game, the Seniors' 61 points could not match the Rams' 66. With only a point or two marking the difference in score throughout the game, its outcome, too, was not decided until the final few minutes. as l xr, gf.. V IT, We're up by nine. St. George Because of the exceptionally close loss to Gordon a week before, the Juniors were taking no chances with the Dragons of St. George. Displaying aggressive offensive and defensive prowess from the opening iump, the Tigers took and maintained a lead which resulted in a 72-32 victory. The Seniors, who played the first game that evening, proved to be not quite the hosts St. George had expected them to be. With the help of Krawczyk and Orlowski, the Dragons were downed 57-49. Loyola A threat to all teams in the first round was Loyola. The Tiger Juniors, with the section championship still in their reach, played a highly spirited game in which tempers flared and tension prevailed. Cool-headedness and deadly shooting, however, brought the Trinity Juniors a 75-59 triumph. The Senior game was taken by Loyola 79-78, As a result, the Seniors suffered their third loss in five attempts and gave Tiger followers a pessimistic out- look for the second round. ROUND TWO De Paul Our Juniors, hoping to make a successful initiation into the second round, met De Paul on their home floor. With the Demons in first place, however, the Tigers found them reluctant to move down and tasted a 74-63 defeat. The Seniors also met a battery of obstacles and in like manner were humbled 81-58. Page Thrilling Passeri, Latocha, and Orlowski surround Demon player in an attempt to steal the ball. Moments . . St. George, De Poul Gomes Caught in a web of DePaul players, Bob Passeri struggles to block Joyce's iump shot. Weber Sighs of relief were the most quotable comments after our mighty mites edged past the Red Horde 44-42. The game, tenaciously fought by both sides, might have been a heart breaker because of close shots that didn't quite make the mark. The Senior game was a close match. What Weber lacked in experience they compensated for in height and spirit. The Tigers, not expecting such an inspired opponent, met the 56-48 defeat sorrowfully. Gordon With an insatiable craving for victory, the jivmigrg welcomed the Tigers-Rams bout, and emerged on top in a 70-57 final score. The Seniors, however, found the strug- gle a bit tougher. Unable to compete with a burst of Gordon baskets, they recorded a 65-59 loss in the scoring column. Loyola Holding a fine record, the Juniors next took on revenge-seeking Loyola. The Ramblers were fighting mad and demonstrated their feelings by dealing our boys a 53-32 loss and holding them to exactly the tally which Loyola had been forced to accept in the Hrst round. The Seniors, in one of the finest games of the season, closed out the Ramblers 59-57 in an overtime. Their precise marksmanship and control of the boards gave them an unconquerable margin for victory. St. George To close The league season The Tigers met The Drag- ons on Their home floor.
