Senior Moderator. SENIOR HOMEROOM REPRESENTATIVE Briefly, the concept of having 'Senior Homeroom Reps' in the first place came about because a new policy was established within the school curriculum which permitted most of the Seniors to leave much earlier than usual. With this, something had to be done fast! And so, the 'brainstorm' of having Senior Reps worked out much better than we expected. The desire for 'Senior Unity' at least had a very important means available through the appointment of Senior Represen- tatives, which served as the nucleus of a triangle: Moderator - Seniors - Principal. Needless to say, this method has established a comfortable rapport for everyone con- cerned, especially the Seniors individually and collectively. Finally, 'Senior Activities' have received the support of the Seniors, something that most likely wouldn't have come about if it weren't for the establishment of such a procedure. 5 3 Z i Senior Homeroom Representatives 17 L. to R. - M. Holy Cross National Honor Society Members ,,,.,. ff Wm, Forensic Society The Forensics Society has as its purpose the de- velopment of confident, articulate speakers. The or- ganization looks to its able moderator, Mr. Richard Hogan for leadership and direction. The Club has approximately thirty members. The bulk of these are underclassmen, which promises that the club will continue to be strong in the future. Student leadership is provided by President Kevin Brady. The club has been extremely successful in the past. Last year the team won over thirty trophies. Three members qualified for the National Finals in Chicago. The three were Senior Kevin Brady and Sophomores John Cocchiaro and Mark Bealin. This year the National Tournament will be held in New Or- leans. Other key members of the team are Robert Furey, Patrick Brea, Raymond Naughton, Richard O'Donnell, and Bill Mahoney, Matthew Murphy, and Warren Strachan. These students, along with others, dedicate themselves to the goal of articulate Christ- ian leadership for the future. Mr. Richard Hogan, Forensics Moderator tw--Q Robert Furey, John Cocchiaro, and Kevin Brady discuss with Mr. Hogan the qualities of a great orator. 54 N W 5 ff' V -........,--,N an f, 3-'Um am-uk, -advise X +1 ink- Q if - .I wi Mm V 99 Q uK.,.'9'f' I SX Q xi zgggm ui JL W 2222222222 25 frkinrwirgitiftiyrwitflntgrkf HR. 313: Top Row: P. Mass 17Zw.s Shelter Island Retreat Shelter Island Retreat Each year students at Holy Cross are encouraged with the enthusiasm to put aside a few days away from school and everyday life to participate in a vital spiritual experience that is most effective for their young life in the teenage world. Under the dynamic direction of Brother Robert Brown, C.S.C., Shelter ls- land has become a landmark on the map of Long ls- land for the Holy Cross student. lt is here that the students experience Christ in many ways and they come back from Shelter Island to share the Light of Christ with their friends, family, and the world that is a part of their daily life. This year over 400 Holy Cross men have come back from Shelter Island with such joy of spirit, peace of mind and enthusiasm for the things that Christ has given them. Hundreds of students have taken up the challenge to make this retreat on their words alone. All the hang-ups and problems that are a part of life - especially the teenage life in particular are dealt with the Passionist Fathers at Shelter Island. It is an experience and a great challenge to set aside a weekend of your own to look into the higher things in life, to see the real meaning in life and to look into yourself, and put all things in good order and for some to start a new leaf on life. Everyone is looking for success and happiness, and a closed retreat, if it does nothing else, will increase one's happiness. As the saying goes, God helps those who help themselves. This is the key to a Shelter Island re- treatg and what you put into it is what you will get out of it in the three days you are there. We are all aware of the academic standing that Holy Cross offers, but it's good for seniors to sit back and realize the tremendous spiritual opportunities that Holy Cross has to offer them to help live a spe- cial way for Christ. First, to provide the studentis, faculty, and commun- ity with presentations of the most interesting plays which have appeared in recent years. Second, to de- velop for itls members, a student body, an under- standing and appreciation of the literary, artistic, and technical angles of the Theatrics. Thirdly, to assist in the educational process of the school by working on video tape productions in the various disciplines. Following in the past success of 'lDonit Drink The Water and HThe Man Who Came To Dinner , the Holy Cross Players graced the stage with a serious but comtempory drama in it's fall production of Robert Bolt's A Man For All Seasons . Much hard work and dedication made the production an over- whelming success. Also the moderator, Brother Robert Brown C.S.C., who supervised this hard working crew. With a great sense of accomp- lishment we trust you will enjoy this volume. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: First, we would like to give special thanks to Brother Joseph McDonnell, C.S.C. and the Holy Cross Photo Club especially to Photo Editor Raynard Benvenuti, Robert Blankenhorn, Michael Greer, and William Horvath who devoted many strenuous hours after school to develop and print many pictures for the yearbook dead- line. Without this fine craftsmanship a fine yearbook is difficult. Also we would like to thank Mr. Norman Kerker of DELMA STUDIOS. The book's fine art work was done by Mr. Frank C. Jahn, a com- mercial artist, a personal friend of Brother Robert Brown, and a de- voted man to all the ideals of Holy Cross High School. John Bonventre, Assistant Editor 117 As seniors of Holy Cross High School, we enter a world ahead of us fully aware of how the education at Holy Cross will be used in the future. We know that our four years at Cross have afforded us an ex- cellent preparation for whatever lies ahead. Our four years at Holy Cross have been full of the friendship, ac- tivities, and memories which will never be forgotten. Through the ef- forts of Brother Pachal, seniors can remember certain activities that were made to bring seniors together. Our diplomas will terminate our attendance at Holy Cross, but not our memories of it. As graduation approaches we will encounter a time in our lives when there is another load of responsibility and freedom put upon us. Our preparation from Holy Cross should enable us to manage them in the right fashion. As we finish senior year, we look back at our Holy Cross years we know we have received what we wanted to attain.
