SNYDER The man at the helm is responsible for the safety and well being of the shipg his is the obligation for its welfareg his, the blame for its failure or the praise for its success. Doctor William H. Snyder, who has been at the helm of Hollywood High School for many years, has always been successful. The head of a school must have, in addition to the qualities inherent in an educator, initiative, that the school may not fall into a rutg forcefulness, that his orders may be carried outg and unusual common sense and poise, that the entire school program may be stabilized. Doctor Snyder is the possessor of all these attributes in large measure. U81 PHYSICAL EDUCATION ENGLISH Miss B. A. Graham fHcad1 Mr. H. G. Black Mr. H. L. Benedict Mr. R. W. Blair Mr. W. B. Romans Rossivr Forums FRANCIS Fosns President VicefPresident SecretaryfTreasurer THE BOYS'LEAGUE The Boys' League is composed of all the boys of Hollywood high school. The purpose of the organization is to encourage interest and assist in all activities sancf tioned by Hollywood, to encourage clean habits and clean speech at all times, to work for the benefit of the organization and the best interests of Hollywood high. Its field of activity lies to a great extent in Athletics, but the greatest work of both the Girls' and Boys' leagues is in connection with the Christmas drive. Until recently the girls have carried on this work unaided by the boys, but the co-opera- tion of both during the past few years has produced most satisfactory results. One activity exclusively carried out by the League is Boys' day, which came this year the first week in May. All the departments of the school were conducted by boy managers, and each class had a boy as student teacher. This was a test which proved the capabilities of the boys as leaders of a large organization. The work of the league has been ably carried on throughout the past year by its ofiicers: Thornwell Rogers, presidentg Robert Forbes, vicefpresident: and Francis Fobes, secretaryftreasurer. XVith the assistance of Mr. Foley the boys of the school have upheld the principles upon which the league was founded. i261 I ELIZABETH CHAPIN GERALDINE SCHWADER MILDRED WELCH MARY CRUMLEY President V1cefPresident Secretary Treasurer GIRLS, LEAGUE Friendship has been the keynote of the Girls' League work in its every endeavor this year. The league purposes to stand for the ideals of true womanhood, courtesy of speech and manner, simplicity, loyalty, and honor, to support all worthy student body activities, to promote the good name of Hollywood High School, and to encour' age the spirit of good fellowship and democracy. The new girls' parties, which are given at the beginning of each semester, accomplished this year their aim to bring about a friendly feeling between the sophomores and the upper classmen. The Christmas Work, one of Hollywood's most important activities, was executed with enthusiasm and proved to be a splendid service work. The duties of the Flower, Pom Pom, and Welfare Committees were completed in a highly commendable manner. The Girls' jinks commanded laughter and gayety from all present and passed successfully as the best party and sole frolic of the year. Hair Ribbon Day revived the old custom of adorning the hair with bright colored ribbons. Friendship Day was held to encourage the forming of new acquaintances and the beginning of new friendships. Perhaps the most successful traditional event was Tag Day. Because of the enthusiasm with which the Girls' League representatives worked to sell the tags, the Scholarship Fund reached 515773, a larger sum than has ever before been secured. The year has been one of signal accomplishment for the Girls' League. Led by Miss Green, faculty adviser and Girls' Vice-Principal, and Elizabeth Chapin, president, the league has truly maintained the ideals of true womanhood, to Dress Simply, Speak Truth, Serve Others, See Beauty, Gain Knowledge, Be a Friend, and 'Achieve the Honorablef wi A 4 4 :lf 4 is? 7, 4 Hg afw., 4,22Wfligpxzfgifff't:it:?fiiii 'i111111: f fffffff,f?f,fjjjjij1j Ex ' 22I2IIIIffffffffffffffffffffff: ' '55753l 7 ifffiffff ' L THE TREASURY DEPARTMENT In general too little is known of the Treasury Department, a division of school ff activity absolutely indispensable to the orderly operation of our affairs. Among 1ts many other duties this office must receive all Student Body funds and pay all bills properly authorized and approved. Students who work in the Treasury Department gain practical experience which should prove of great value to them in business life. Through this work they become accustomed to handling money and dealing directly with business men, all transactions being handled directly with banks or business houses. Habits of accurf acy and punctuality are developed, as records are kept and checked in such a man' ner that errors may be traced to the particular individual at fault. During the lirst semester, Donald Camphouse efficiently carried out the duties , of Treasurer. He was assisted by William Kurtz and Laurence Edmiston as Assistant Treasurers, and Leonard Gazin as teller. During the second semester, William Kurtz and Leonard Gazin served as Assistant Treasurers and George Heine- man and Teague Andrews served as Tellers. Mr. Evans, the faculty adviser, has been a constant assistant to the student helpers. 5 Mr. Wright, in the bookkeeping branch of the work, has been ably assisted by , Lillian Charlton and Viola Christensen during the fall term, and Leola Fawkes, Nettie Lannen, and Marian Noodelman in the spring term. wi f f Gnzin, Kurtz, Heineman.
