I O9 Zfkeward This year was basically the same as any high school yearg we studied - had fun, experienced sad mo- ments of trial and error. School bonds were passed. There were games and dancesg voices were hoarse from Pep Squad rooting and singing. There were brief moments of glory for some of us in sports, musi- cal and dramatic productions. All shared the hopeless reality of examinations and deadlines, the semes- ter grades, the noontime cafeteria rush. These impressions are only a few that were packed into the full year. Credit for the production of this book goes to the loyal Eagle Staff. The Staff, however, has fur- nished only the outlines of the story that we find when we turn these pages filled with warm smiles of friendship and many happy recollections. The rest is up to the individual. Underclassmen who return to HHS in the fall will continue to keep up the high standards ofthe school and strive for improvement. Graduates will go their separate ways using the knowledge they have gained here to reach their successes. It is not today that you will appreciate the EAGLE. Tomorrow, when it is not so easy to think back on 1963, we will treas- ure the memories this book has stored for us. Sincerely, MJ Carolyn Hudson Editor-in-chief U16 Szzglc' Staff 9 Ghuq..,,,,, ,...n-nP - ---......,,,,, Editor CAROLYN HUDSON Assistant Editor RICKEY W ELCH Business Manager SANDY ADA MS Assistant BUT CH ADA MS 1 , flags ' U16 Saglc Stag My congratulations to the 1963 Eagle Staff! No finer group of loyal workers could be assembled. Very few realize how much thought, organiza- tion, salesmanship, and general co-operation goes into the editing of the Eagle each year. Most of the work on the book is done after school hours with no thought of praise or reward. I have enjoyed working with this splendid, un- selfish group of students. Special recognition is due Sandie Adams and Rickeywelch who tied for the most annuals sold, with twenty-nine sales each. Staff Sponsor, Ethel R. Though time will pass and we shallpart, this book will be an unbreakable link in your chain of mem- ories. And if, when looking through these pages, you relive the happy days of yester-years for just a little while, our efforts will not have been in vain. So - We Present This Book To You: May your heart be lighter and your life a little happier for the memories it may bring - and May the gripes and hardships ofthe year be forgotten and may these pages bring back only pleasant memories! The awards were made to students who were scholastically in the top ten per cent of each high school class. This follows a policy being carried out in many of our high schools today and we take pride in the fact that our school has accepted such a plan. The modern high school student like the modern business professional man has many distracting in- fluences which may easily prevent his best efforts in school. He may take part in too many extra-curric- ular activities to do his best scholasticallyg he may form poor study habits: or he may decide that excellent grades will set him apart from other students. However, the world of tomorrow, if it is to be a better world, will be guided by people who have trained minds - people who have learned to accept responsibilities. We know of no better place than the schoolroom to begin such training, and we sincerely hope that we never fail to recognize excellence whether it be on the athletic field, in the band hall, or in the classroom.
