His next stop was Salt Lake City where Matt was barely edged out for a chance to compete in the national finals. As the first place winner in the state competition, Matt received a S250 savings bond and a S250 cash prize. At the regional his prize was a S1000 scholarship. Matt has an outstanding career at Holbrook, serving as senior class president, and vice president of the student council, was a member of the Academic Decathlon team, National Honor Society, Swing Thing, and Speech team, played on the varsity football team, and performed in Oklahoma and The Music Man. Ste wart Is Century II Leader Bridget Stewart added to her already impressive list of achievements at Holbrook by representing Arizona in the Century Ill Leaders National meeting in Williamsburg, Virginia, last March. ln addition to earning an all-expenses paid trip to Colonial Williamsburg, Bridget received a S1500 scholarship. After spending five days in Washington, D.C., fora group orientation session and a visit to the Senate, Susan flew to Japan for a seven-week stay with her host family. The purpose of the program is to strengthen relationships between the US and Japan and provide opportunities for future leaders to expand their perspectives and awareness of other cultures. This was not her first trip abroad, as she lived for four years in Peru. She now speaks Spanish and French fluently and hopes to add Japanese to her oral skills. However, in other meets the Holbrook squad did not do as well as they might have due to a variety of factors. Roadrunners will lose three top runners to graduation: Wesley Speen, Henderson Gishey, and Calvin Spencer. The J.V. squad was very impressive. They didn't fin- ish lower than second in any meets. The Basketball Season was rather disappointing. Poten- tially we had the finest girls' team in the history of H.H.S. We were unable to get it all together and ended the sea- son with 8 wins and 13 losses. One of the highlights of the season was our victory over Snowflake. This was the first time ever that an H.H.S. Girls Basketball team has beaten Snowflake. With the start of a freshman basketball team our future should be brighter. oo! fgezai, -vw-.- , - , --.., A 5.1 gtgf,.3g3 4 ,L 3 -Q-2-eww Mm ' 'TQLXMWQQN 53' f .' Initially, a student meeting Mrs. Crosby for the first time might be intimidated by her somewhat stern German exterior, but it would not be long until he realized that Mrs. Crosby's love reached out to everyone she came in contact with. Mrs. Crosby's influence went beyond the walls of HHS. She was known and loved at the hospital, in her Eastern Star organization, and at the Senior Citizens' Center. Her annual collection of food for the needy, her willingness to help and advice beyond school hours, her generosity, her sympathy, her tart sense of humor all will ensure that she will be loved and remembered at Holbrook High School and in the community of Holbrook. We will miss her, but Holbrook High School is a better place because she was a part of it. X gig? MN? X f E Ni f 1 ,I q,,h I . .. , 90 O'J11GfJ,L X KE 64 Wd and Mill, QW' iff igfgg Uwcf- 6079!
